The top 40 American idols went to Las Vegas for the semi-final round of auditions that begins this week. Wetpaint reported on Feb. 18, 2013, that the idols have the option of singing a song from a predetermined list or their own original song this year. They can also choose to play an instrument during the Las Vegas round.
Over the next 2 weeks the judges will cut 20 singers from the competition. Ten boys and 10 girls will go home on Feb. 28, 2013. The top 20 American idols will then sing live for America's votes on March 5, 2013. Again, half of the singers are going home, but, America will be choosing the top 10 instead of the judges.
In past seasons, the judges picked about six boys and six girls before America votes. Producers are hoping that this change will get "American Idol" fans actively voting again. The show's ratings continue to decline each season perhaps this alteration will give "Idol" a much-needed boost.
The next episode of "American Idol" airs Feb. 20, 2013, on FOX channel WAWS 30 in Jacksonville, Fla. Keep checking back here at Examiner for more spoilers throughout the week.
