"American Idol" aired the Long Beach/Los Angeles, CA auditions on January 30, 2013. Mariah Carey was stuck in traffic and Nicki Minaj had a prior commitment so "Idol" judges Randy Jackson and Keith Urban had to go it alone until the ladies arrived. But hey, the show must go on and auditions continued as planned. Below is tonight's featured golden ticket recipients.
Shubha Vedula performed "Somebody's Got A Hold On Me" for "American Idol" judges Randy Jackson and Keith Urban. This girl has a powerful voice with great control so it was an easy yes from both judges. Shubha Vedula is headed to Hollywood.
Mariah Carey fought her way through traffic and finally arrived to take her seat on the judges panel.
Matt Farmer was injured serving duty in Iraq and told he would never have children but the doctors were wrong. Matt has a beautiful little 2-year-old daughter who accompanied him during his "American Idol" audition. Farmer performed "Change Is Gonna Come" and proved he has a voice almost as beautiful as his daughter. Farmer has strong vocals, beautiful tone and the ability to convey emotion through music. The "Idol" judges granted him a ticket to Hollywood.
Nicki wrapped up rehearsals and the four "Idol" judges were reunited for the remainder of auditions.
Jesaiah Baer dressed the part for her "American Idol" audition aboard the Queen Mary by sporting a captains hat. Her rendition of "Settle Down" was interrupted by a fire alarm and the ship had to be evacuated. Luckily it was only a small kitchen fire and quickly gotten under control and Baer completed her audition earning four yeses and a golden ticket from the judges for her unusual voice and interesting stage presence.
Micah Johnson was left with a speech impediment after complications from a tonsillectomy but this bump in the road didn't stop him from following his dream. Johnson auditioned for "American Idol" singing "Chicken Fry" and while performing all signs of his impediment disappeared. Johnson has a beautiful voice that touches your soul. It was 4 yeses from the "idol" judges and Micah is headed to Hollywood.
Rachel Hale chose to sing "People Get Ready" for the "American Idol" judges and they absolutely loved her. Hale is the entire package. She's pretty, has a beautiful voice with great control and an infectious smile that lights up a room. It was 4 yeses from the judges and a golden ticket to Hollywood for Rachel.
Briana Oakley a 16-year-old student who was featured as one of the most talented kids in a television special was on top of the world, until she returned to school and realized her friends had turned on her. She was bullied so severely that she started eating lunch in the restroom or with a teacher to feel safe. Eventually she changed schools. Her love of music made her come to realize that she is who she is and nobody will ever change that thus her "American Idol" audition. Briana performed "Up To The Mountain" and it was one of the best "Idol" auditions of the evening. This girl has a natural talent and she's headed to Hollywood.
Matheus Fernandes moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Matheus suffers from what many would call a disability. He is very short but Fernandes has come to terms with his height stating that, "Great things come in small packages," and he was right. His "American Idol" audition song choice was "Change Is Gonna Come" and it was amazing. Matheus has a unique and powerful voice that belies his small stature. This young man is truly talented and yes, he's headed to Hollywood.
