'American Idiot' to appear on 'America's Got Talent' September 8

The cast of the Broadway show American Idiot is scheduled to appear on the television show  "America's Got Talent," the NBC reality TV series, tonight, September 8.

In addition to competing acts, the lineup for the Sept. 8 show (9-10 PM ET) will also include Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan performing her new single "Forgiveness." The final four acts will be revealed live.

The opportunity for shows like American Idiot to appear on television gives the kind of exposure that allows people who might not normally get to a Broadway show a chance to see what kinds of entertainment happens in New York City.  Earlier this summer, the cast of Broadway's Rock of Ages appeared on the same show.

The Broadway production of American Idiot is a musical based on the Green Day punk album of the same name. It tells the story of three lifelong friends who choose between their dreams and the safety of suburbia, grasping for meaning in a post 9-11 world.  The show has been performing at the St. James Theatre on 44th Street in NY since this spring.
