Lionsgate officially announced the news earlier today.
The American Horror Story star is set to play District 2’s Commander Lyme in part 1 & 2 of Mockingjay. Commander Lyme was a past victor of the Hunger Games which was created by the Capitol as punishment for the previous rebellions. She is introduced in the story when Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and the other Rebels begin to make plans with District 2 to bring down the Capitol.
The news of Rabe’s role comes days after Academy Award nominee Julianne Moore was cast on Friday as District 13’s President Coin.
Rabe is best known for her roles in Fox’s American Horror Story. She joins the cast that also includes Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Donald Sutherland, Lenny Kravitz, Stanley Tucci who are all reprising their roles, and newbies Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, and Evan Ross.
Mockingjay will follow heroine Katniss Everdeen’s journey as the face of the rebellion joining others in the uprising to bring down the corrupt government known as the Capitol.
Mockingjay: Part 1 is set to be released Nov. 21, 2014, and Mockingjay: Part 2 on Nov. 20, 2015.
The sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, opens everywhere on Nov. 22, 2013
