'American Horror Story' spoilers: Who will survive 'Asylum'?

American Horror Story: Asylum” killed off two major characters in last night’s episode. On Thursday, the show’s creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy talked about what’s next for the remaining characters.

In an interview released Thursday, Murphy told Entertainment Weekly that the producers knew from the beginning who would survive the season and who would not. “We do an interesting thing with the last two characters and take huge time leaps from 1965 to 1969 to 1973 to 1981. It’s a very interesting structure.”

Murphy acknowledged that viewers had questions after the first season ended about what happened to the characters, but he insists that there will not be any lingering questions about characters’ fates when this season concludes. “It’s very satisfying, the ending,” he said.

Exploring the mental health care system and what happens to people in it was important to Murphy. “Jessica [Lange, who plays Sister Jude] was very attracted to the idea so we explore the decline of the system through her. But also the triumphs of people,” Murphy added. “What was important to me is that the show as we built to the conclusion wasn’t just so dark and unrelenting. I really wanted to have a couple happy endings and some of the characters do have that.”
