On Monday, March 24 Variety posted new details about the upcoming fourth season of the television horror drama "American Horror Story," including that the new subtitle will be "Freak Show" and the series is to take place entirely at a carnival. The news comes after weeks of speculation and rumors from fans and executive producers that the new season would have a circus or carnival theme.
Show creator Ryan Murphy tweeted out a photo of the words freak show earlier, but it is not the official logo of the series. The thirteen episode series will take place in Jupiter, Florida in the 1950s. Jessica Lange, who will be returning to the series for the final time, will play the leader of the outcast group of performers who is a German expat.
Other returning cast members that have been confirmed and will play rescued performers include Angela Bassett, Francis Conroy, Evan Peters, Kathy Bates and Sarah Paulson. Emma Roberts is still in talks to return and no word on whether or not Taissa Farmiga or Lily Rabe will have roles on the new series. Denis O'Hare is also close to joining the show for a third time. Actress Lea Michele recently said on a talk show that she would love to appear as a guest star for one episode of season four.
"America Horror Story: Freak Show" is expected to film this summer in New Orleans or Santa Fe, with episodes airing in late 2014 or early 2015. The series continues the trend of taking place in a different past decade with the same core cast members playing new roles.
