Season 3 of the anthology series will largely focus on the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Set over 300 years after the Salem witch trials, witches are now facing mysterious attacks against their kind, and are nearing extinction.
This leads to the young girls being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves, including new arrival Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own.
The 13-episode miniseries, currently in production in New Orleans, stars Jessica Lange as the long-absent Supreme witch who returns to protect the Coven at all cost, Sarah Paulson as her daughter, Angela Bassett as Marie Laveau, a character loosely based on an influential woman in 1800s New Orleans, and Kathy Bates as real life socialite-turned-serial killer Madame LaLaurie.
The second season of "American Horror Story" subtitled "Asylum" has 17 nominations heading into next month's Emmy Awards.
