“American Horror Story” co-creator Ryan Murphy joined co-creator Brad Falchuk and executive producer Dante Di Loreto and key members of the “Asylum” cast at PaleyFest 2013 tonight, March 15, in Beverly Hills.
Murphy revealed that the season three subtitle will be coven and the story will be based on witches. While he was reluctant to give any further season three story details, he did confirm that one of the filming locations will be New Orleans and a couple other “doozy locales.”
Murphy said that they had been talking about the witches idea for a couple of years and decided this would be the year to do it. Fans and critics alike have also speculated about a witch-based season three plot while season two was still airing, as clues were planted in the last few "Asylum" episodes.
Jessica Lange’s character is reported to be a kind of glamor cat character. Lange said she doesn’t know what a glamor cat is, but she’s excited to play one.
Oscar winner Kathy Bates appeared as a surprise panel guest. Bates is set to play opposite Jessica Lange in the upcoming season as her nemesis. Of the part Murphy said, “I wanted to see a lot of scenes with Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates going at it, so that’s what you’re going to see.”
Bates, who is friends with Lange, admitted to being a huge fan of “American Horror Story” and said she coaxed Lange into telling Murphy she’d do anything to be on the show – and everything worked out.
Season three returning cast members at the PaleyFest panel included Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Lily Rabe and Frances Conroy.
“American Horror Story” returns in October 2013 on FX network.
