'American Horror Story' scares up a part for Zachary Quinto

It's official: we're worried about American Horror Story. The brand new thriller from Ryan Murphy and FX has yet to even air, and already casting announcements are taking over the media. Though many of the big television names this series is snagging are only signing on for short arcs, we can't help but look at shows that came before it-- and with already well-established fan bases-- that have suffered because of the addition of too many new people and mini (even if just weekly) plots.

But today it is being reported that yet another character has been added to American Horror Story, which at its core Murphy and his cast insist is about a family dealing with grief and trust issues. Zachary Quinto has signed on for a "major" arc, says Deadline.

Quinto is perhaps best known for his work on the NBC superhero drama Heroes, but here he will play a much more human guy as Chad, the former owner of the house who befriends Vivien (Connie Britton). He is currently slated for four episodes, and just because this thriller is one of the psycho-sexual kind, dealing in infedility-- including supernatural affairs-- does not mean sparks will fly between Chad and Vivien. No, Chad is, in fact, gay.

Quinto joins Lily Rabe and Eric Close, who were also recently announced a part of the "guest cast" of American Horror Story.

American Horror Story premieres on FX on October 5th, but Quinto won't make his debut until the two-part Halloween episode. Part one will air in the show's usual time slot on October 26th, with the second half airing as a special piece of programming actually on Halloween night.
