According to a Feb. 26 TVLine report, Oscar winner Kathy Bates is the next huge star to play Oscar winner Jessica Lange’s nemesis in “American Horror Story," with her season three deal near completion.
Bates played the incomparably evil nurse Annie Wilkes in Rob Reiner’s psychological thriller, “Misery." Her terrifying portrayal earned her the Best Actress Oscar in 1991. Who can ever forget when Annie slams the sledgehammer down on a helpless Paul's (James Caan) ankles? Bates can certainly get her psycho on, now can't she?
TVLine also reports Bates' character will be Lange's BFF, who becomes her enemy.
Lange's "AHS: Asylum" character, Sister Jude, was no stranger to betrayal. Jude was initially in a power struggle with the evil Dr. Arden (James Cromwell) and then the victim of his conspiracy plot to commit her to Briarcliff. Arden's partners in crime were the power hungry Monsignor Howard (Joseph Fiennes) and demon-possessed Sister Mary Eunice (Lily Rabe).
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy previously revealed season three’s main villain, (similar to season one’s Rubber Man and season two’s Bloody Face), will be a female.
Is Bates, per chance, going to be this villain?
“American Horror Story” season 3 plot details have yet to be released, but many people are speculating that the theme may be witchcraft or voodoo.
We also know the season three story is going to be set in modern day and Jessica Lange plays a kind of glamour cat character, who returns more to her Constance Langdon roots.
Plus, Ryan Murphy promised an "American Horror Story" season one Violet and Tate style romance.
There’s no question Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates can each conjure up enough creepiness to make us all want to sleep with the lights on -- for at least a month! Putting these two together is undoubtedly going to be a double dose of season three evil delight!
Bates marks the first new "American Horror Story" season three cast member. AHS season one and season two returning cast members Jessica Lange, Evan Peters, Lily Rabe, Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy and Taissa Farmiga are already confirmed for season three.
AHS fan favorite Dylan McDermott made an incredible transition from season one’s Ben Harmon to season two’s Johnny Morgan. Unfortunately, McDermott will not be returning for season three. Per “TV Guide,” he is slated to star as an FBI agent in a CBS political thriller pilot called “Hostages.”
According to a recent “Huffington Post” interview, it doesn't seem likely Zachary Quinto will be returning for season three, either.
