"American Horror Story" has never been afraid to go for cheap shocks, but last night's episode took things to mostly weird and uncomfortable new heights. It's true, "Coven" was so full of OMG moments that it made it really difficult to pick just five. But the task must be done, so here are the top five moments from "The Replacements."
Fiona and the Next Supreme
Fiona (Jessica Lange) is dying from cancer, which could explain her quest for immortality. We learn in a flashback that she killed the previous supreme (an all too brief Christine Ebersole) in order to take her power. Now she sees that Madison (Emma Roberts) might be the next one in line, and Fiona decides to take the young starlet under her wing. After some drinking and bonding, Fiona takes Madison back to the house and stands her in the same spot where she killed the ex-supreme. She pleads with Madison to kill her, but during their struggle, Fiona slits Madison's throat, which is probably what she wanted to do the whole time.
Queenie Gets a Slave and Much More
Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) is in tears over what she see's in the magic box: a black president. Her reaction was simply hilarious, only because you would expect that kind of hurt and fear from such a terrible racist such as herself. Fiona makes LaLaurie the maid, and after a heated exchange with Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe), Queenie's slave. It looks like everything is going well until the Minotaur shows up, and Queenie actually tries to help LaLaurie out. Of course, this being AHS, a rather provocative twist had to be done. Queenie confronts the Minotaur and begins to rub herself, but it is unsure of what happens next. Thankfully, if anything did happen, the audience didn't actually get to see it.
Not Even for One Hundred Thousand Dollars
Fiona is not the only one getting bad news. Cordelia (Sarah Paulson) is informed that she simply cannot have a baby, which means that the black magic sex she had with her husband last week didn't do anything. So she turns to Madame Laveau (Angela Bassett) for help. It really did look Laveau was helping out Fiona's daughter, but that whole ceremony was just a tease. Laveau refuses, and sends Cordelia out on her way. The best part of the whole scene was the fact that Angela Bassett delivered her lines atop an alligator throne. Simply Classic.
Joan Ramsey (Patti LuPone) has moved in next door with her hunky son Luke (Alexander Dreymon), and catches the attention of Madison and Nan. They go over for a visit, but of course it doesn't end well, with Madison hurling a knife at Joan and then setting the curtains on fire. Joan later goes over to talk to Fiona, but that doesn't work out too well for her either.
The Creepiest Mother in the World
It was probably assumed that Franken-Kyle would end up killing his mom (Mare Winningham), but the reason behind it was such an unpleasant twist that it almost brought the whole episode down. It turns out that Kyle's mom tends to get a little too close for comfort (putting it mildly), and continued to do so with Kyle even though she knew that really wasn't him. He ends the abuse by bashing in her skull with a trophy, proving that some of the biggest horrors can be found right at home.
"Miss Aryan sisterhood came between Queenie and her food." - Madison
