After a long and truly grueling wait, “American Horror Story: Coven” premiered last night, and all that can be said is “Holy Cow.” Though it's still over-the-top as ever, this season (well, based on the first episode) feels a bit more focused than “Asylum,” which while entertaining, seemed to just make it up as they went along. Here are the top moments (in no particular order) from last night’s premiere “Bitchcraft.”
Warning: This article contains spoilers.
Kiss Me Deadly
Jessica Lange can play a femme fatale like no one’s business, but this time her kiss was literally the kiss of death. That’s a shame, cause the doctor’s work seemed to be quite interesting, and it would have been nice to see it completed.
I Feel No Pain
“AHS” has never shied away from doing things for shock value, and Coven kept he tradition alive at the dinner table when human voodoo doll Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) stuck a fork in her hand in order to inflict pain on spoiled movie star Madison (Emma Roberts.)
No Longer a Fun Bus
We knew that Madison wouldn’t let the frat boys get away with raping her, but for her to flip their bus while they tried to get away was a huge shock.
Never Cross a Voodoo Priestess
Madame Laveau (Angela Bassett, in a brief but fierce role) appeared at the door of Madame LaLaurie (a terrific Kathy Bates), but all wasn’t as it seemed. Taking full advantage of LaLaurie’s vanity, Laveau gave her a potion that seemingly ended the twisted woman’s life, but alas…..
Why Are You Still There
Apparently there is some other magic in the works (perhaps that ring the camera flashed to), since Madame LaLaurie is alive and well, and now hanging around with Lange’s Fiona in New Orleans.
