With all of the pageantry of a great American holiday the American Hero 25K Relay sparkled with red, white and blue. Runners and walkers arrived on the campus of Texas A&M - San Antonio to honor America's military. With the stripes of the American flag as the backdrop of the day's events the starting gun was shot and the race began with a children's 400 meter run. The smiles of the children captured the beauty of the day. Just moments after the children completed their race the adults descended upon the starting line. There were 3 categories of runs: 5K, 25K solo run and 25K Relay. Regardless of the event the runners chose to run on this partly cloudy morning it was obvious that those participating came to honor America's hero's by running with the spirit and pride of the USA.
Many of the runners stated that this event was now part of their Memorial Day Weekend for years to come. A tradition had been started. The run allowed them to gather with family and friends while paying tribute to those that are serving as well as those that have served.
San Antonio Fitness Examiner Memorial Day thank you:
This column is not a blog, but I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to reflect on my personal connection with honoring those who served in the United States Military. I am the product of several generations of men that served in America's military. The sacrifices these men gave now allows me the freedom to pursue my dreams. I can't thank them enough for giving me a voice to help educate and inspire others. As my role models I volunteered to proudly serve in the United States Air Force too.
