Starting tonight, Saturday and Sunday at Boettcher concert hall, the Colorado Symphony Orchestra presents An American Festival. An evening featuring four American composers and soloists.
Headlining the evening is Mandolin player Christopher Thile performing his own piece, the Mandolin Concerto. Thile is not the only soloist on the program. Pianist and Music director will also be performing the original jazz band version of Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue as soloist and conductor.
The program also includes a piece by Orchestra Timpanist William Hill, an original composition entitled Four Movements Musicale and Copland's suite from the ballet Billy the Kid.
The concert begins at 7:30 PM on Thursday September 17th. Repeat performances are on Saturday September 19th at 7:30 PM and Sunday September 20th at 2:30 PM. The usual Friday concert will take place on Thursday due to the observance of Rosh Hashanah on Friday. All performances are at the Boettcher Concert Hall in the Denver Performing Arts Center.
