There are many studies that try to describe the American family or explain why they are the way they are, some, from a negative perspective. A report written by the Heritage foundation on marriages has a positive spin and offers hope. The report reveals a three percent increase, to 74.5%, in the number of women making it to their 10th wedding anniversary. America is still far from the 82.8 % of marriages that made to ten years between 1960 and 1964, but this is an improvement.
Equally as positive, is a Heritage Foundation video that states children’s ‘Scholastic achievement is related to factors outside the classroom. The presence of both parents in the home, higher levels of parental involvement, and satisfaction with family life are all positively linked to children’s academic achievement and educational attainment.’
Maybe the trend of higher divorce rates in America has finally beginning to turn around. Maybe we are beginning to discover and pay attention to research that shows the need for more two parent homes in America. Pennsylvania has most certainly has decline has shown by the Census Bureau report. There are States, however, such as New Jersey and Virginia that have shown little improvement.
There are many dynamics that have effects on families and society that are not revealed to the general public. This column will reveal these dynamics for the betterment of families in America.
