American expatriate starts petition to indict Sarah Palin for inciting violence

Dr Stuart Jeanne Bramhall, an American expatriate currently living in New Zealand, has started an online petition to indict Sarah Palin.  The online petition says:

We, the undersigned, call on the Department of Justice to issue an indictment against former Alaska governor Sarah Palin for incitement to violence for designating Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords with a gun target image at her SarahPAC website at www.sarahpac.com. We believe there is ample evidence from Palin's public speeches and commentary that the image was used with the specific intent of inciting violence against Democratic congressmen labeled with these gun targets. We are also concerned that failure to prosecute Palin and others who have promoted this type of gratuitous violence sets a dangerous precedent.

According to an article she wrote at Salon, Dr. Bramhall compared Palin supporters to Nazi brownshirts and claims Palin's words and clip art used on a political ad were designed to incite violence.

No mention was made of similar graphics used by Democrats in similar ads.

Bramhall claims that there is "ample evidence" that Palin's words caused the shooting, but failed to explain what words, specifically, caused the violence.

She also claimed other members of Congress "targeted by Palin" may be in danger if the DOJ fails to act.

"Allowing Palin and others to continue to promote this type of gratuitous violence sets a dangerous precedent," she wrote, failing to specify what, specifically, she believes constitutes "gratuitous violence."

Bramhall, a 63 year old psychiatrist, activist and author, left Seattle in 2002 and started a new life in New Zealand.  In her bio at Salon, she claims to have been the target of "extensive government harassment" for her political activism.

Author of a memoir entitled, The Most Revolutionary Act: Memoir of an American Refugee, Bramhall's bio says:

...What commenced as unrelenting phone harassment and break-ins progressed to attempts on my life and an affair with an undercover operative who railroaded me into a psychiatric hospital.

The petition shows over 4700 signatures, but a large number have been rejected.

The comments left by some of the signatories says a great deal about those who have bought the media template hook, line, and sinker.

"Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, Coulter all need to be indited," writes one "Marilynn Morrissey".  Others, like "Jim Wilgus" said Palin should be silenced.

Someone signing as "Stevan Thomas" wrote:

This should also include Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh, who have all advocated shooting Congressmen or people they've disagreed with politically, on the air, on their shows.

Despite the fact that no evidence exists of any link between Palin, Beck, Limbaugh, the Tea Party, or any other conservative, these individuals have all bought the lie spread by so many in the media.

So much for "civility" and toning down the rhetoric.  Is Joe Scarborough taking notes?

It is highly unlikely anything will come of this petition.  So far, there is no evidence linking the alleged shooter to Palin, or anyone else.  But those are facts, and are apparently unwelcome by some on the left.

As of this writing, Dr. Bramhall has not responded to requests for comments.

Well then I guess she should start a petition to indict the people at the Daily KOS and everybody else who supposedly incite violence. It was a madman who was at fault and nobody else!

. Sarah Palin and Fox News are using "Race-baiting tactics to incite unbalanced Americans into violence:
. Sarah Palin on Fort Hood: "accused Fort Hood gunman Hasan Nidal committed an act of terrorism and that he should have been profiled after "massive warning flags" emerged about his fanatical Islamic beliefs. "
In an interview that aired on Fox News Channel on Wednesday night, Palin said, "I am going to use the word -- profile this guy. Profile in the sense of finding out what his radical believes were."
. PALIN on Tucson shooter: "President Reagan said we must reject the idea that every time a law is broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions. Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state. Not with those who listen to talk radio. Not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle. Not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies. And not with those who proudly voted in the last election. "

. Right-wingers jump on violence acts committed by non-whites and blame them on Liberal policies( Fort Hood and murder of Arizona Rancher)
. Violent acts committed by whites in reaction to hate speech is blamed on the criminals, not on their handlers on the Right
    Tricky?

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The fallacy of the single cause, also known as joint effect or causal oversimplification, is a logical fallacy of causation that occurs when it is assumed that there is a single, simple cause of an outcome when in reality it may have been caused by a number of only jointly sufficient causes.

Often after a tragedy it is asked, "What was the cause of this?" Such language implies that there is one cause, when instead there were probably a large number of contributing factors. However, having produced a list of several contributing factors, it may be worthwhile to look for the strongest of the factors, or a single cause underlying several of them. A need for simplification may be perceived in order to make the explanation of the tragedy operational, so that responsible authorities can be seen to have taken action.

For instance, after a school shooting, editorialists debate whether it was caused by the shooter's parents, TV violence, stress on students, Hollywood or the accessibility of guns. In fact, many different causes—including some of those—may all have necessarily contributed. Similarly, the music industry might claim that peer-to-peer file sharing is the cause of a loss in profit whereas factors such as a growing videogame market and economic depression are also likely to be major factors.

Sarah Palin supports 2nd amendment remedies to take out undesirable elected officials
    1. Angle supports overthrowing US Government:
    http://voices.washingtonpost.com/plum-line/2010/06/sharron_angle_floated...
“The most charitable interpretation here was that Angle was floating armed insurrection -- or "Second Amendment remedies" -- as a defensible response if electoral politics fails to change where things are headed under the current regime.
Also, the larger context is key: TPM reports this morning that Angle was a member of the far-right Independent American Party, a pro-gun, states-rights party that warns against the threat of global government.
She has also said she's a member of the patriot group "Oath Keepers," though she's since disavowed that bunch. “

    2. Sarah Palin Supports Angle: http://www.nevadanewsbureau.com/2010/10/18/sarah-palin-energizes-tea-par...
“RENO – An enthusiastic crowd of Tea Party supporters showed up to cheer on former GOP Alaska Gov. and U.S. Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin today at one of what will be many stops across the county in advance of the Nov. 2 general election. “
    A) Angle supports Violent overthrowing of US Government
    B) Panlin supports Angle
    C) Therefore Sarah Palin supports Violent 2nd amendment remedy against Gabrielle Giffords
