American Craft Beer Week for the local brewery lover

Dear Liver,

I apologize in advance for the struggles we are about to endure, together, at the hands of American Craft Beer Week. I know you will understand. There have been several such periods in the past during which we have faced similar trials... Baltimore Beer Week in 2011, the multitude of "going away parties" before our move back to New Orleans last June, every single Mardi Gras... but we have always made it through alive. And often, I have treated you to a few days of glorious detox afterward. I cannot promise the same this time, but if you just bear with me over the next 7 days, I will owe you a nice, juicy cleanse sometime in the near future.

Your best friend (and worst enemy),
Mark

Welcome to the cusp of American Craft Beer Week (hereafter known as ACBW) dear readers. This is what is known in the beer community as a rough week... in a good way. There will be so many great events every day at your favorite beer bars (such as Avenue Pub or The Bulldog) and craft-friendly restaurants around town that there's no way you can cover them all. But there are some that you just won't want to miss... such as the Hop Head Night at Avenue Pub on Thursday... even if you're so strung out from drinking every other night of the week that you can barely make it to work.

So I won't try to list all of them... especially since Nora's Beer Blog already covered that. But, as your crusader for all things local, I will list my favorite Louisiana beer events for ACBW, and let you decide for yourself which to simply attend... and which to pre-emptively craft your "I'm not feeling well" emails for the next morning.

Here we go:

Sunday, 5/12 - Avenue Pub (4pm)
ACBW Kick off Crawfish boil with Bayou Teche Brewing

Monday, 5/13 - Dat Dog (6-8pm, Magazine St. location)
Meet the Louisiana Craft Beer Collective and enjoy some rare craft beer bottles!
(I'll be there to share some awesome brews with my beer peeps!)

Tuesday, 5/14 - Wayfare (6:30pm)
Beer and Cockatil Pairing Dinner featuring Tin Roof, Bayou Teche, Saint Arnold, Lazy Magnolia, and more! Call (504-309-0069) for reservations.

Wednesday, 5/15 - The Bulldog (5-7pm, both locations)
Uptown: Tin Roof Pint Night featuring Perfect Tin brewed with English yeast and hops
Mid-City: Cask of Abita Belgian Golden ale and free glassware

Thursday, 5/16 - Evangeline (7-9pm)
Two casks in the beer garden from Tin Roof and Bayou Teche with food pairings
(Oh, and the aforementioned Hop Head Night!!!)

Friday, 5/17 - Avenue Pub & Irish House (6pm)
American Craft Cask Crawl featuring Parish and NOLA Brewing and more

Saturday, 5/18 - Avenue Pub (2pm)
Grand Tasting with over 100 American Craft Beers, including all your favorite Louisiana brews!

Sunday, 5/19 - Warehouse Grille (2pm)
BBQ with NOLA beers, free food, and live music

Yes, I know that's 8 days, but you can't blame me for getting a jump on the action when crawfish are involved! And even though I will probably need to take a break at some point, I hope to attend as many of these as possible. Just don't blame me if I'm dragging a bit when you see me out there. My poor liver can only endure so much...

Drink well, my friends!
