American Country Award Nominees Announced

FOX-TV recently announced their inaugural award series, the American Country Awards.  Nominees in 17 categories were chosen based on Mediabase airplay data, touring info from Pollstar and multi-source rankings from Big Champagne. Artist of the Year nods (overall, male, female, duo/group and breakthrough) were determined by Big Champagne (which includes Mediabase airplay data). Single of the Year, also broken into the above categories, is based solely on Mediabase airplay, as is Album of the Year. Video noms come from GAC videoplay, as reported by Mediabase, with the Touring Headline Package award being based on Pollstar numbers.  The eligibility period is October 1, 2009 to September 30, 2010.

"Unlike any other country music award show, the AMERICAN COUNTRY AWARDS will give fans the power to choose all of the winners, which means the awards will reflect what America is listening to and watching right now," said executive producer Bob Bain. "The ACAs will recognize traditional categories like Artist of the Year and Album of the Year but will also introduce new honors for tours and videos, resulting in one amazing night for country music."

With seven each, Lady Antebellum and Easton Corbin lead the nominations.  Carrie Underwood earned six and Miranda Lambert and Josh Turner received five each. Kentucky's own, Laura Bell Bundy is nominated for her video "Giddy On Up" for Music Video: Breakthrough Artist of the Year.

Starting today, fans can vote once each day for their favorite AMERICAN COUNTRY AWARDS nominees at www.theacas.com. Voting is open until November 8, 2010, for all categories, except for Artist of the Year, which closes on December 4. The nominees for each award category have been determined by respected media measurement companies Big Champagne, Great American Country, Mediabase and Pollstar.

The American Country Awards show airs live from The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Monday, Dec., 6 (8:00 PM ET Live/PT Tape-delayed) on FOX.

I still think that the decisions on the nominations are very questionable...some of them just don't make any sense at all.
