America Slams San Luis, Beasley Scores for Puebla

SAN LUIS, Mexico – Club America defeated San Luis FC 3-1 during week 4 of the Clausura 2012 tournament at the Alfonso Lastras stadium here.  The eagles returned to winning, after having drawn the last two games and remain undefeated in the maximum circuit.

Both teams hit the field with their eye on the prize, the three points that neither had won the previous week.

In the fifth minute Peruvian Wilmer Aguirre dropped the ball with his chest and positioned himself to take a shot with his left and put the sphere past goalkeeper Moises Munoz in their first attack play of the game surprising the Aguilas early on.

A few minutes later, Ecuadorian Cristian Benitez received a pass from Argentine Daniel Montenegro in the penalty box to push the ball in to tie the game in the 10th minute.  The Guerreros’ defense tried to stop the charging Benitez who pushed past his opponents to tap the ball past keeper Oscar Perez.

On a fast run, Adolfo Rosinei passed to Benitez who tapped the ball back to beat the defense leaving him face to face with Perez.  The Brazilian struck low to Perez’ left forcing him to dive, but the ball rolled past him to give America the 2-1 advantage in the 28th minute.

Benitez was fouled inside the penalty box at the 34th minute.  The fouled Benitez took the shot himself.  Perez dove to his left, the direction the ball was moving in, but it was traveling too fast for the former Mexican national team goalkeeper.  America took a 3-1 lead.

Once again the combination of Paul Aguilar and Christian Bermudez on the bottom half of the pitch constantly tested the San Luis defense.  Aguilar was the more active of the two with duty as attacking defender serving centers to Benitez and Rosinei, while returning to defend his team's area.

The visiting squad controlled most of the game in the second half.  San Luis attempted to gain ground but the Mexico City giants were too much for the locals with Aguilar winning and driving the ball deep into the danger zone on several occasions.

Coach Miguel Herrera made defensive changes in the later part of the second half substituting Bermudez with Miguel Layun, a defensive player with a similar profile to Aguilar.  He also pulled Rosinei off the pitch and brought in Venezuelan Osvaldo Vizcarrondo to strengthen the defense.  Striker Vicente Vuoso came in for Montenegro.

America controlled the remainder of the game and kept the victory 3-1.

Beasley Gives Puebla First Win

Former U.S. international DaMarcus Beasley scored from just inside the box to give Puebla FC their first win of the season at Jaguares de Chiapas FC.  Puebla and Jaguares opened Saturday’s action at the Victor Manuel Reyna stadium in the southern state of Chiapas in the Mexican jungle.

The camoteros took an early lead with a shot from the former Glasgow Rangers player who beat goalkeeper Edgar Hernandez.  Beasley received the pass, positioned himself and took the shot that flew past the left side of the diving keeper to bury itself in Jaguares’ net.

Puebla controlled the field to hang on to their 1-0 lead for the next 87 minutes giving Coach Juan Carlos Osorio a needed win in the tournament.

"The team was close to getting the win by a goal in the last three games," said Osorio after the match.  "I am very satisfied with the results."
