America Salvages Tie Against Tecos

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – America managed to salvage a 1-1 tie with Estudiantes Tecos UAG at the Tres de Marzo stadium Friday night continuing their undefeated streak.  Tecos on the other hand managed to earn a point, which helps them in their fight to avoid relegation at the end of the season.

The game began with America dominating the pitch.  Christian Bermudez made the first shot on goal after beating the Tecos defense.  He passed to Daniel Montenegro, who passed it back to “el hobbit.”  Bermudez shot, but the ball went straight to goalkeeper Christian Martinez.

America had the locals on the run, and it appeared that it would be a matter of time before the Eagles were on the board.  Ecuadorian Cristian Benitez had a shot on goal that Martinez saved with his left hand on a dive.  The Mexico City club continued to pressure Tecos, and a melee in the area looked like the goal would fall, but the Guadalajara-based defense cleared the ball to keep them tied.

America won a free kick a few yards out from the penalty area.  However, an overzealous azulcremas team moved into attack position leaving a vulnerable defense.  Argentine Gabriel Pereyra received a pass from a recovered ball and passed it to Fredy Bareiro.  The Paraguayan received the ball and beat goalkeeper Moises Munoz to put the local squad up 1-0.

America would get a goal of their own.  Benitez plowed through the Tecos defense and hammered the ball in to the net, beating Martinez to tie the game 1-1 in the first two minutes of the second half.

America continued to show dominance on the field, but kept coming up short in the final act.  Colombian Aquivaldo Mosquera had a clear shot on goal, as he headed the ball with a bounce in front of Martinez who tapped it out for a corner kick.

Throughout the match Tecos had a hard time passing the midfield as America constantly searched for the go ahead goal.  New signing Venezuelan Oswaldo Vizcarrondo made his debut as a substitute in the second half of the game.  He did not make a big difference in the game and received a yellow card.

The eagles continued to charge forward but the goal would not arrive.  After receiving the initial goal of the match, Munoz was relatively inactive except for a shot from Elgabry Rangel that made him dive to his left on a ball that had the trajectory to enter the net.

The point earned on the tie helps Estudiantes Tecos, however, Atlas, and Queretaro have yet to play.  Both teams will face each other this week.  The other team trying to avoid relegation is Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente who have a harder task against Chivas de Guadalajara at the Omnilife stadium in Jalisco.

Monarcas Win Their First

The second game of the evening had undefeated San Luis FC facing Monarcas Morelia at Morelos stadium.  Monarcas ended the Guerreros perfect season with a 2-0.  Jaime Lozano and Ecuadorian Joao Rojas scored the goals for Monarcas.

At the end of the night, San Luis remains at the top of the board with six points.  America follows with five points, Monarcas now has four and Tecos earn their first point of the season.
