On this week's episode of "America's Next Top Model," the models finally pack their bags and head to Bali, where they participate in an underwater runway and do a photo shoot with wild animals. One of the guys has a panic attack, and another model has a problem posing with an animal.
At the start of the episode, we see the models racing to pack their bags for their trip to Bali. As they pack, Don talks about his post traumatic stress disorder, and how the competition is hard on him because of it. Marvin is psyched to be able to go out of the country, as the only place he's ever been is Honduras, where he is from.
As the models touch down in Bali, Renee is feeling very at home, as she is from Trinidad. On the bus, everyone is enjoying the scenery, and Jourdan, who is from a small town, is really overwhelmed with all the sites, and the others pick her on for her naivety.
Home for the models in Bali will be the Ayana Spa. They are greeted by some Balinese dancers and Rob and Johnny. They welcome the models and send them off to their villa.
As the models enter the house, Nina is excited to see her winning photo from last week on the flat screen. She heads to the Tyra Suite, where she jumps on the large canopy bed, and then visits the Guess closet.
The next days, the models are shuttled out to a boat, where they meet Johnny. He introduces Carole Lacroix, who is the Brand Manager for "69 Slam," which is a swimwear and underwear line based in Bali. They will be doing a runway challenge underwater, wearing helmets from Seawalker to help them breathe. The winner will receive a $3,000 prize package of "69 Slam" swimwear and other goodies.
Don starts getting freaked out at having to go underwater, bringing up his PTSD again. Apparently, when he is not in control of things, it triggers his PTSD and he freaks out.
Not only does Don have a problem with the underwater challenge, but Nina takes Johnny aside to inform him of her lung problem. Lung problem? Wow, that's the first I've heard about this. Will it be a problem like Alexandra's rapid heartbeat last week? We will see.
Nina explains that when she was younger, she breathed in an airborne fungus, and had to have part of her lung removed. Because of this, she isn't going to be able to go underwater, as the pressure could make her lung emplode. Yikes! This freaks her out, as she thinks having a poor challenge score could send her home. She does have a point, unfortunately.
Being a runway challenge, both Jourdan and Renee do well underwater. Don, however, does not, as when he gets down to the ocean floor, which is only 12 feet down; he freaks out and asks to be brought back to the surface.
In the end, both Don and Nina will do a lesser version of the challenge, just snorkeling, instead of going all the way to the bottom. They will have to pose in the shallow water, and hope their poses give them enough of a score that they won't be totally handicapped by the lesser version of the challenge. Neither one totally impresses Johnny, unfortunately.
It's time to announce a winner. No surprise that the top two are Jourdan and Renee. And the winner is… Renee.
Back at the house, there is a huge pile of clothes and prizes for Renee. Nice swag!
The challenge scores are as follows:
Don is worried, but thinks that Cory, Nina and Marvin all have 6s, so he should be fine as long as he gets a great photo.
The next day, the models pile in the bus and are taken to the Bali Safari, where they meet Johnny Wujek, who is standing with an orangutan. He tells the models that today they will be posing with some of the wild animals in their photo shoot. He says they'll be shooting with one of the following: orangutan, macaws, leopard and Burmese python. Today's photographer is Lynette Newell. She is a specialist in shooting with animals.
Cory and Jourdan pose with the orangutan. Cory seems to do well. Jourdan does so-so as well.
Nina has the python, and she's worried about the fact that she really needs to kill the photo, due to her low challenge score. She has problems with the snake constantly moving in and out of the shot, and she looks really sleepy. Johnny isn't sure that she even got a good shot. Don also has the snake, and he has the same problems Nina had with the snake being so mobile.
Renee has the leopard, and she is totally afraid to even be near it. From the shots, it looks like she has a decent shot, but there's no definite aha moment from Johnny. Jeremy also has the leopard, and he looks really fierce, and Johnny loves it.
Chris has the two macaws. He looks a little bored. Marvin also has the macaws, and Johnny says he looks too drag queen, and in the end, he doesn't know if he even got a shot.
Back at the villa, the models receive the elimination skull mail.
"Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. NO ONE is safe."
In judging, the critiques went as follows:
Renee is first. Kelly says that her photo is just flat. She looks less like a model and more like an actress shooting a Vanity Fair feature. Rob agrees that she looks just "blah." Tyra thinks she looks stunning, but there is no special moment in the photo. BryanBoy says that her social media scores weren't that great.
Next is Cory. Kelly loves the shot, and thinks his androgyny is really showing, and he's connected with the orangutan. Rob thinks that the photo looks comical. Tyra thinks he hit the challenge, and he did great.
Don is next. Rob really likes the photo, especially his face. Kelly likes the face, but his middle looks slouchy. Tyra too, loves his face, but in the wide shot, he looks like a boxer. BryanBoy says that Don's social media scores dropped this week.
Chris is next. Kelly loves the shot. Rob calls it boring, and flat. Tyra thinks it's flat too. BryanBoy says that his fans think that he is not modeling.
Nina is next. Kelly thinks that if Audrey Hepburn and the queen of Circus Soleil had a child, this is what she'd look like. Rob doesn't see the connection with the snake. Tyra disagrees and thinks she did fabulous connecting with the snake. BryanBoy says that her social media scores remain high this week.
Jeremy is next. Kelly doesn't like the way you can't see his leg in the photo, and she says that his body looks completely distorted. Rob loves the shot, and thinks that Jeremy is really working his body. Tyra doesn't think it's awful, but she sees a little Liberace. Social media loves him according to BryanBoy.
Next is Jourdan. Rob loves the shot. Tyra disagrees. She thinks it looks catalog, and that she looks more like her mom's age. Kelly thinks she looks like a 53-year-old ex-supermodel who lives in the Hamptons and has four ex-husbands. Ouch! BryanBoy says this week; she had her lowest social media scores to date.
Marvin is last. Kelly thinks he looks like a butler. She says she has always been on board with him since the beginning with his big personality, but she feels maybe she was fooled. Rob calls it really weak. He thinks Marvin looks like Boy George, and too draggy. Tyra likes the photo, and thinks that he's showing some emotion. He's not just standing there. BryanBoy likes the picture and Marvin's fans also like it.
The scores are tallied up, adding the challenge, judging and social media scores, and the call-outs went as follows:
Marvin and Don are in the bottom two. The judges think Marvin has charm and charisma and good photos, but sometimes not so much. They think that Don has street looks as well as model looks, but they're not sure if he really is a model. In the end, Don is going home, and Marvin lives to model another day.
Next week, the models ride on elephants, and it looks like Chris has problems during the photo shoot, and he's worried about going home. Tune in on Friday, Oct. 18, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on The CW to watch the next episode.
