'America's Next Top Model' Cycle 16 - Episode 3 - Makeover Madness

Last week on America's Next Top Model, the girls met with Tyra's nutritionist, who gave them a lesson on what she called "cheaties," which are foods that seem bad, but are really not, when eaten in moderation. Ondrei admitted to some of the girls that her two brothers died, one of them having been murdered the day before her prom, which was only several months before the competition.

There was an acting challenge, in which the girls had to face their inner critics by drawing them on large sheets of paper. Acting coach Eugene Buica played the role of the inner critic, and the girls each took turns telling their inner critics that they would no longer rule their lives. Several girls had a hard time with this, especially Ondrei, who dealt with the deaths of her brothers. Later on, she would question if she was strong enough to continue in the competition.

The photo shoot was with live bees on jewelry, and there were exceptional photos and some not so much. At panel, Ondrei requested to leave the competition, and the judges agreed and wished her well. Tyra said that if Ondrei's photo was the worst, there would be no other elimination, but if it wasn't, another girl would also be going home.

In the end, Ondrei's photo was not the worst, and the bottom two were Dayla and Nicole, with Nicole packing her bags due to her photographing much older than she looks in person.

Who will go home this week? Read on...

When the girls come home from last week's judging, Hannah sees her photo displayed on the big screen TV with the text, "Quite Sweet" "feel your insides come to the outside" "Prima Ballerina."

After a brief look at the photo, Alexandria notices a rope by the window with a small sign reading "Pull me" on it. The girls run screaming to see what will happen when the rope is pulled. As the rope is pulled, a banner is dropped with some terms to describe various hairstyles written on it. There's "Extreme angled bob," "Kinky, red & wild with matching brows," "Dirty blonde & big waves," "Big Gurly & Curly," "Manly short brown spikes," and "Short dutch boy." The girls scream, realizing it's makeover week. Alexandria wonders who will be the "Short dutch boy," and Sara is sure the "Manly short brown spikes" is hers. Dominique knows she has a confidence problem, and she hopes that the new look will help with that. Monique hopes that the "dutch boy" isn't her, cuz she loves her long hair. Jaclyn really doesn't want blonde hair, while Brittani really wants the red hair.

The next day, the model bus brings the girls to the Privé Salon in Hollywood, and the girls shuffle in to meet Mr. Jay and Miss J. Mr. Jay then introduces the owner of the salon, Laurent D. After the makeovers, the girls will then go do a photo shoot with their new looks, with former makeup artist turned photographer, Troy Jensen.

No one knows who is getting what, so the girls just head to the washing stations, then to the styling chairs. Brittani is first, and Laurent styles her himself, telling her she's getting the "short, black with bangs look." Brittani feels that right now, she doesn't stand out, and she trusts Tyra to pick something to make her look great.

Off to the shoot, Brittani gets good feedback from Mr. Jay for working her new look.

Jaclyn is next, and they give her the big, gurly and curly look, which isn't much different than what she had already. Miss J comes over to chat with her, telling her that once she leaves the chair, there is a razor in another area, where she'll be going next, and he asks her how she feels about that. She looks shocked, but says reluctantly "ok," and Miss J reveals that he was only kidding.

At her shoot, Mr. Jay comments on Jaclyn's confidence. He calls her super amazing.

Monique is happy that she is getting additional extensions to her hair, and comments that she always gets what she wants, usually. Miss J likes the look, saying it's very sexy, but then that's her thing.

At her shoot, the photographer seems happy, and Monique comments that she just needs to make sure she isn't too sexy with her poses.

Sara gets her rat tail cut off, and her hair is getting cut really short. She really wanted long hair, so was a bit disappointed that they're going to highlight her androgynous features.

At her shoot, she comments that the new look will force her to work more with her face, as she won't have hair to work with.

Alexandria gets into her usual bossy self, and tries to tell the stylist that her extensions aren't quite right. She says that she knows how they should look, and they don't look right to her. The stylist assures her that they'll be taking good care of her.

At her shoot, the photographer calls her gorgeous, and asks her to give him a wicked eye, which Alexandria has down pat. She comments that she always has to have things done her way, because her way is the right way. Wow.

Dominique is psyched to get her makeover, which is long, kinky and red, with a matching eyebrow. When they get her hair colored, before adding her extensions, Dominique complains that she doesn't like it. Mr. Jay says that she has to trust in the people doing the styling, and by the time all the long, curly extensions are added, she's loving it.

At her shoot, she comments that she thinks that this will help her with her confidence.

Poor Molly is getting long, wavy blonde extensions, and Miss J looks worried, but the weave specialist, who was brought in especially to do Molly's extensions says that they are doing it this way due to Molly's fine hair. Molly is worried that she's going to be the girl that gets the crazy hairstyle.

Salon owner Laurent D comes over and is really disappointed, saying that Molly looks like Dee Snider from Twisted Sister. He's spot on with that assessment, actually. Miss J says that they'll think of some way to style it for the shoot, and then fix it later.

Laurent ends up styling her hair himself, and he makes it look a bit more presentable.

At her shoot, the photographer tells her to use her hands in her hair, and Molly comments that she loves the long hair, but she hates the style of this weave, which looks like it's horribly sewed onto her head.

Mikaela is also getting a weave, like Pocahontas. She loves the style, and thinks that people should be looking out for her in this competition.

In the photo shoot, Mr. Jay also loves the new look, saying she looks gorgeous.

Kasia is also getting extensions that are crimped and wild and crazy. She loves her new look.

At her shoot, she comments that bigger is better, and she's ready to be a CoverGirl.

Dalya is also getting a long, dark weave. She comments about how she was raised by conservative parents, who taught her to be reserved with her body.

At her shoot, the photographer is really liking her poses and her look.

Hannah is shown getting some highlights, and they also lightened her eyebrows a bit. She loves it, and thinks she could be in a hair ad.

At her shoot, she comments that she feels that her new look will really help her with her confidence in the competition.

The girls get back home and unwind. Dominique is really loving her new look, thinking that before she was just about the freckles, and now she has something even more.

Tyra mail!

"Tomorrow you will learn about photosynthesis. Love, Tyra"

The next day, the girls are taken to the Orcutt Estate, where they meet up with Mr. Jay. He introduces the two ladies standing by his side. The first is fashion photographer Pamela Hanson. The other is fashion stylist Lori Goldstein. He tells them that the shoot will be all about couture. They'll be posing in groups, so not only will they have to pose beautifully, they'll need to outshine the others in the photo.

Off to hair and makeup. The first pair is Molly and Kasia. They had a problem at first making the two dresses work together, but with a little adjusting from Mr. Jay, they made it work. Mr. Jay thought Molly dominated the photo.

The next pair was Monique and Alexandria. Monique was rather diva-ish during the shoot, causing Mr. Jay to say, "When Monique doesn't like something, she pouts." Then,Alexandria positioned herself in front of Monique, dominating the photo.

Prior to the shoot it was Alexandria who was being the diva in hair and makeup, complaining about the way the hairstylist was brushing her hair, and that she had a pimple on her lip from stressing out, and was upset.

Sara was still complaining about her hair, but she was happy to be posing with Mikaela. The photographer wasn't too happy with their performance, saying they looked like robots, and she mentioned that Mikaela had her eyes nearly closed in all the shots.

Brittani and Hannah were next, and they fooled around a bit pretending to talk to each other in French. Mr. Jay wanted to know about their giggling, and asked if it was real or forced, and Brittani admitted that it was forced. Things were a little off at first, but they seemed to do better towards the end.

Dominique was part of the only group of three, working with Dalya and Jaclyn. When they first set up, it was like Dalya and Jaclyn had this thing going together in the photo, while Dominique was off to the side, looking like she didn't have any idea what to do. Mr. Jay thought it looked more like a duo photo, and Dominique was just there. He said if he were to print that photo, he would have just cropped Dominique out. When he told Dominique that it seemed that Dalya and Jaclyn were having a moment, and he wanted to know what she was thinking, she spoke the dreaded phrase, "Honestly, I don't have no thoughts." Awful thing to say. Anyone that has seen Cycle 14, and saw Alasia say that she wasn't thinking of anything during her photo shoot, and later get sent home due to her lackluster photo, knows you never say that you have no inspiration during a photo shoot. I think Dominique just signed her papers for going home with that remark.

Back at the model home, the girls get the elimination Tyra mail.

"Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. Only 10 will continue on in the hope of becoming America's Next Top Model."

Time for panel. Tyra introduces the judges, Nigel Barker, Andre Leon Talley and guest judge, Lori Goldstein. She tells them about the prizes -- a contract with IMG Models, a spread in Italian Vogue, a cover and a spread in Beauty in Vogue and the $100,000 contract with CoverGirl Cosmetics.

The girls are usually called out singly, but this time, since they did group shots, they are called out with their group member(s).

First is Monique and Alexandria. Nigel thinks the photo is stunning. ALT thinks that neither of them is outstaging the other. Nigel likes the twinkle in Monique's eye, but he says he radiates towards Alexandria in the photo. Lori commented that Alexandria was great on camera, but before the shoot, she was kind of cranky, and that is something that photographers have no time for.

Next is Brittani and Hannah. Nigel thinks the shot is gorgeous, and he says it works in so many ways. He loves Hannah's body language. ALT thinks both girls radiate high couture to him. Tyra calls the photo a beautiful waltz, and praises the girls for working together.

The next to be critiqued are Dalya, Jaclyn and Dominique. Nigel calls it very interesting. He loves how Dalya has her hand next to her face, and the top hat reminds him of something from Alice and Wonderland. He thinks Jaclyn looks ethereal and feminine, and very southern belle. Nigel thinks Dominique looks unusual, and doesn't look like she fits in with the other two. Tyra asked Dominique what happened, and she reveals once again the interaction with Mr. Jay, and her response about having "no thoughts," which causes Nigel to say, "this is your moment to start thinking of something."

Next is Mikaela and Sara. Lori says that Mikaela is beautiful, with great bone structure, but that she had a hard time, and her eyes weren't open in any of the pictures. ALT thinks Sara looks like she just got caught in the moment. Nigel thinks it's just ok. Tyra thinks that Sara needs to own what she has.

Last is Molly and Kasia. Tyra asks Molly what is going on with her weave, as Molly is wearing a headband around it. Tyra asks her to take it off, and when she sees how awful it looks, she tells her that they'll fix that if she sticks around. Nigel thinks Molly looks striking, but he doesn't like how Kasia's mouth is open. Tyra disagrees and thinks it looks stunning. ALT thinks Molly looks like the strong, warrior sister, and Kasia looks like the uptown, good girl sister. He thinks if they were trying to upstage each other, it didn't work. Lori says it's her favorite picture as well. Tyra thinks Molly looks like a bad girl rascal that is jealous of her little sister that is the favorite. She thinks they both shine.

The judges sent the girls out of the room while they deliberated, and then called them back to find out who will be sent home.

The callouts went as follows:

  1. Alexandria
  2. Molly
  3. Brittani
  4. Kasia
  5. Jaclyn
  6. Hannah
  7. Monique
  8. Dalya
  9. Mikaela

The bottom two are Dominique and Sara. The judges think Sara has a lot of potential, but she lacks the confidence. They think Dominique has an interesting beauty, but freckles don't make the model. It comes from the inside out. Who stays? Sara will stay, and Dominique will be packing her bags and going home.

Next week, the girls will be walking in a runway challenge that sets them on fire, literally. They'll also be filming a commercial. Tune in next Wednesday at 8:00 pm on The CW to find out who will triumph, and who will be checking out of the model home.
