'America's Next Top Model' Cycle 15 - Episode 10 recap

Last week on America’s Next Top Model, the girls flew to Venice, Italy, where they had a group photo shoot in a gondola with a male model portraying “Casanova.” Kayla rocked the photo shoot, but Chris and Liz both had problems.

Later on, they traveled to Milan, where they visited the Missoni fashion house, including Margherita Missoni, heiress to the line. They tried on clothes from the winter line and walked for Margherita.

At judging Kayla earned top photo, and Liz and Chris were in the bottom two, where Liz and her complaining ways was sent packing. Who will be going home this week? Read on.

The girls arrive back in their Milan digs after judging and Kayla admires her winning photo from the gondola. Chris and Kayla chat in the kitchen, and Chris mentions that maybe this week, they will get rid of two people. She says that it’s possible that she could be one of the two, but she is ready to get this over with. Kayla interviews that she doesn’t think that Chris really wants this.

Jane takes advantage of some of the down time to call home and talk to her mom, and tell her that they changed locations. Her mom guesses correctly that she’s in Italy. Jane also interviews that quitting Princeton to pursue modeling was a huge risk, when she didn’t even know if she really could model.

Tyra mail!

“Prepare to fare una buona impressione. Love Tyra”

Chelsey correctly interprets that to mean go-sees, and Chris is worried that she is going to have a hard time getting around.

The girls start looking over their portfolios and start arranging the pictures inside. Chelsey is stoked, as she has gone on go-sees before, and she thinks that will give her an edge up on the others. She’s still commiserating that she has yet to win first call-out, and is really wanting to win this challenge.

It’s off to IMG, where the girls meet Tyra, who gives them all a lesson in setting up your portfolio. She relates a story of when she was first modeling. She had a portfolio of about 30 shots, which she was extremely proud to have. She went to her agency, and her agent took about half of the photos out, and placed them photo side down in the back pocket. Then, Tyra said when she left, she took out all those photos and put them back in the book, so people could see them, thinking she knew best. And then, she wondered why she was a catalog girl who could not book editorial work, when it was her own fault for thinking she knew better than the agent, what looked best for the go-sees she was going on.

Next, the girls meet with Giovanni di Corrinto and Andrea Cairo, the directors of IMG Italy. They tell the girls that they’ve set up appointments at four different places. Two top photographers, a casting director and the fashion house of Versace. They can use the metro, the bus or they can walk. They have to be back by 6:30 pm. At that everyone scrambles out of the building.

The girls team up, with Chris and Jane going together, and Kayla and Chelsey going together. Ann decides to tag along with Kayla and Chelsey.

Chris and Jane decide to go to the closest location, which is Versace. After asking directions from a waiter in an outdoor café, they arrive at Versace within 15 minutes of leaving IMG.

Chris meets with Angelo Azzena, and she asks him what they look for in a model. He tells her they want attitude, a good body and a nice walk. He browses her portfolio, and hands it back. Jane is next to meet with Angelo, and he browses her portfolio briefly and hands it back to her without comment.

Next, Jane walks for Angelo, and he says that she is fresh, but she needs to work on her walk. When Chris walks for Angelo, he mentions that he doesn’t like the way Chris fits the clothes. He doesn’t think she looks current, but like a model from the ‘80’s.

There is 3 ½ hours left, and Chelsey, Kayla and Ann have yet to find Versace. Finally, 40 minutes into the challenge, the threesome make it. Chelsey walks for Angelo. He comments that he likes her walk, and she fits the clothes well, but her look is “two seasons ago.” When Kayla walks for him, he comments that he likes her face, and thinks she would work for editorial, but not for runway. With Ann, Angelo thinks she has a perfect body, and he loves her height, but he doesn’t like her walk. He would book Ann for print ads and shows.

With 2 ½ hours left, Chris and Jane find a map, and they decide on where to go next. They decide to just go back to IMG and not take the chance at being late.

Chelsey ends up making it to a second go-see at Global Video, where she talks with Danilo, who tells her they are looking for someone with an amazing shape and beautiful face, and she has both of those attributes. He comments that Chelsey might be perfect for a fashion show.

Chris, in walking around the city with Jane, injures her foot, and the girls head back to IMG, making it by 5:50 pm, having only seen one client.

Ann, on her own now ends up asking over 20 people how to get to places, and still ends up lost. She comments that she used to get lost in Texas, and finding her way in Italy was even worse than that.

Chelsey makes it back to the agency by 6:25 pm, and it looks like Kayla and Ann are going to be late.  Ann finally ends up making it back by 6:50 pm, 20 minutes late. Kayla walks in at 7:15, 45 minutes late.

The girls are called in to talk with Andre and Giovanni. Andrea points out that Kayla and Ann were late, and are disqualified. Giovanni mentions that Chelsey is the only one to make it to more than one go-see. They are really disappointed in the girls’ ability to make it to the four castings.

The critiques from the go-sees are as follows: Ann needs to work on her walk. Kayla has a beautiful face, but she was late getting back. Chelsey was said to be more commercial than editorial. Chris was the only one to ask a question. Jane has a beautiful face, but needs to improve her walk. The winner is Chelsey. She will receive a prize at the model home from Versace. When she gets back to the house, she opens her gift, which is a beautiful Versace jacket.

Tyra mail!

“Soon I’m going to make you look marbleous. Love, Tyra”

The next day, the girls are taken to a beautiful mansion on Lake Como, where they meet with Mr. Jay and Nigel Barker. Nigel points out all the statues on the property, and tells them that they will be statues in the garden that are transformed by the love of the sculpter. Yep, you guessed it. They will be working with another male model. The girls head to hair and makeup, and soon meet the sexy male model, Simone Bredariol. Although Kayla has had problems in the past posing with male models, she interviews that she’s used to it by now, since they seem to be posing with male models in nearly every shoot now.

Jane is first, and she seems to have a problem with showing emotion. Mr. Jay criticizes her and she breaks into tears. When he asks her what has her upset, she tells him she feels like she’s blowing it. He tells her that this is the first time in the competition that she’s shown genuine emotion. She tells him she’s trying to figure out who she is. He tells her not to try and be perfect, because perfection is boring. Jane interviews that she feels like she’s going through an identity crisis due to the fact that she’s been constantly told she has no personality.

Chelsey is next, and she really does well with sexy poses. Both Nigel and Mr. Jay are super impressed.

Ann is next, and she also is doing really well, since she’s so artistic.

Kayla is next to shoot, and she receives good comments from both Nigel and Mr. Jay.

Chris is the last to be photographed. Her foot is hurting, but she isn’t going to let it ruin the photo. She started out really well, but then her foot starts to hurt, and she has a hard time pushing through the pain. Nigel ends the shoot saying he feels like Chris was over it, and she didn’t really show any passion.

Back at the model house, the girls get the skull Tyra mail.

Tyra mail!

“Tomorrow you will meet with the judges. Only 4 will continue on in the hope of becoming America’s Next Top Model.”

The girls arrive at panel, and Tyra introduces the judges – Nigel Barker, Andre Leon Talley, and special guest judge Kyle Hagler, one of IMG’s managers. The girls are called out one by one.

Kayla – They ask her how many go-sees she went to. She tells them one, ‘cause she got very, very lost in Italy. Tyra tells her she didn’t book the job. As they view her photo, Nigel says that Kayla was the best poser in the bunch. Kyle admires Kayla’s connection to the other model. ALT loves her body language, and that although she isn’t looking at the male model, her body language suggests that he’s been seduced. Tyra tells her that the picture is stunning, but she needs to work on getting to a go-see.

Chelsey – Tyra congratulates Chelsey on being the winner of the go-see challenge, and asks her how many go-sees she got to. Chelsey admits to only going to two. Tyra tells her she booked one. Viewing her photo, Nigel says he loved her photo, and really enjoyed shooting her. ALT wishes she elongated her neck more like a swan.

Chris – Tyra asks Chris how many go-sees she went to. Chris tells her one, and Tyra says, “and you booked none.” After viewing her photo, Nigel says he thinks Chris did a “good” job, but it felt like she was just “over it.” Kyle thinks the photo looks forced. ALT thinks the lower part of her body looks more statuesque than her top part.

Ann – Tyra asks Ann how many go-sees she went to. Ann tells her one, and Tyra says that Angelo from Versace would hire her for Versace couture, but she was disqualified, because she was late. When looking at her photo, Nigel says that Ann knows how to model, and has good moves, but his biggest problem with her is that she doesn’t emote. She’s too quiet. ALT says, “You did not give Nigel what he wanted, but you’re giving “high fashion,” because of the way you are projecting it in your face.” Tyra loves the pic, but says, “personality is so important. Without it, you won’t get booked.”

Jane – Tyra asks Jane how many go-sees she went to. Jane tells her that she went to one, and Tyra says, “and he didn’t want to hire you either.” Looking at her photo, ALT comments that the lower half of her body is totally classical statue, but the upper half of her body looks like the male model put her to sleep and the emotion went out of her.

Now, the judges will deliberate and when they call the girls back, they’ll tell them who will be going home.

The call-outs went as follows:

  1. Kayla
  2. Chelsey
  3. Ann

The bottom two are Chris and Jane. The judges love Chris’ personality, and think she took some really good photos, but they feel she is less invested lately. They think Jane takes good pictures, but she is in the bottom two because of personality. Who will go home. We say goodbye to Chris.

Next week, meet with the editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue, Franca Sozzani, and Tyra shoots the girls in a variety of poses that require movement and emotion, and two girls will be going home.
