The Greater Houston Partnership will host their 2010 Energy Symposium on October 12. The theme of this year’s symposium is to be “America’s Energy Future.” Though Houston is widely known as the Energy Capital of the World for the many oil and gas industry companies headquartered there, both fossil-fuel and renewable energy topics will be addressed at the conference.
GHP predicts that America’s Energy Future will bring together energy experts, senior-level executives, and elected officials in one venue to discuss emerging energy technologies, as well as the creation of jobs in related and subsidiary industries. The future of offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is expected to be a hot topic.
Featured speakers at the symposium will be Doug Foshee, President and CEO of El Paso Corporation; and Helge Haldorsen, President of Statoil America. Foshee will speak on “The Future of Energy” while Haldorsen’s topic is “The Promise of Advancing Technology.” Each presentation will be followed by a panel discussion bringing together industry executives, and public policy leaders. Panelists include representatives of electric power and natural gas distributors, wind energy, oil and gas exploration companies, and oilfield services. Almost all represent executive partners of the GHP.
Job creation is a repeating theme for the symposium. Speakers and panelists alike will address possible roles for the host city as leaders in both traditional and developing technologies. Immediately following the symposium, the GHP will host Texas Governor Rick Perry’s “State of the State” address.
