With the high tech sailing machines as well as the sailing abilities of New Zealand’s Team Emirates and USA’s Team Oracle so close to being evenly matched, the two teams completed two nail biting races at unprecedented speeds, each team winning one.

The Oracle team took advantage of a great start in race 9, and seemed to run off with the race opening up a lead at one point of more than seven football fields. The United States beat New Zealand across the finish line by 47 seconds.

But it was race 10 that will “go down in the history books as one of the greatest sailboat races of all time,” reports the Sept. 17, New Zealand Herald. The team competing teams swapped the lead four times “dueling neck-and-neck for much of the course before New Zealand eked out a 17-second victory,” wrote Yahoo Sports News.

The split of yesterday’s races leaves the series 7 to 3, New Zealand, but due to USA starting with a 2 point deficit, the score is 7 to 1 with the first to 9 points taking the trophy.

The Kiwis could take the cup tomorrow from Team Oracle; weather conditions permitting, races 11 and 12 will sail,.but with the evenness of the two teams, the winner is likely to be the one that makes the fewest mistakes.
