The organizers have sketched out a tentative race course for the 34th America's Cup in July and August 2013. Spectacular sailing and spectator thrills are joint objectives.
Down by the bay
The proposed race area calls for plenty of action close to land in the bay, so good news for landlubbers. Onlookers will catch some action whether at Crissy Field, along the Enbarcadero, in Sausalito, Tiburon, Angel Island, Treasure Island, in the East Bay Hills or on Alcatraz Island. The entire bay acts as a natural amphitheater.
Free views from everywhere
However, San Francisco offers fabulous glimpses of the bay, sometimes panoramic vistas, from all sorts of vantage points, often just stumbled upon, throughout the city. And they are free.
An office window, perhaps?
For the public, the upcoming 34th America's Cup is meant to be one of the most accessible races in history. Some 43 days of racing by some of the fastest sailboats ever built will be something to witness. No matter how close you can get, or from where you plan to watch the action in the bay, it will be exciting to be in San Francisco in person for the America's Cup. The U.S. has not played host to the America's Cup since 1995. Hotel room with a bay view, anyone?
Have a rehearsal
Pick your viewing spot and try it out 11 months early. There will be two America's Cup World Series events in San Francisco this coming summer scheduled for August 11-19, 2012 and August 27-September 2, 2012.
