Team New Zealand is poised, primed and pumped to win the Cup. Oracle might stage a hostile takeover of its own and grab two races on Wednesday, two more on Thursday, two more on Friday, and two final wins on Saturday. It’s POSSIBLE. Really. It is.
Then again, ETNZ might just wrap things up on Wednesday, and go home. With the Cup. Lords know, Grant Dalton can’t take much more of this at his age. :)
So, what’s it gonna be? At this point, I’d bet New Zealand. But not quite yet. No, I think Oracle has two wins left in them, and I think they come out tomorrow.
When confronted with this do or die situation, Oracle will let it all hang out. There will be no holding back (as if there has been so far...), and there will be risk taking. That’s when things get interesting for New Zealand.
With a one boat campaign, and a commanding lead, ETNZ can afford to let Oracle win one or two. Hell, even three. And not sweat it - much. So why risk the boat? It won’t.
Jimmy will do what he can to force penalties, and ETNZ may take some, and take the racing easy. Odds are that Oracle can not race a perfect race that many races in a row, and New Zealand only needs to sit back and wait for an Oracle mistake, then pounce to a victory.
Yup, unless New Zealand crashes their boat, or there is some monumental equipment failure, taking it easy and letting Oracle have it’s day, its “tricky maneuver,” or even an “amazing come from behind win” is a smart thing to do.
But is that in the New Zealand psyche? I. Don’t. Think. So. ETNZ is nothing if not competitive.
Therefore, tomorrow’s racing ... will be a fascinating thing to behold.
I really need to find a way to play hookie and go to the waterfront.
