America's Cup fans, tomorrow may be the deciding race! With today's race win by Oracle USA racing team, the Emirates New Zealand team still holds the keys to victory. Visitors to the Bay Area will be on the edge of their seats as the final, deciding race could be tomorrow at 1:15 p.m.
Jimmy Spithill for Oracle and 41 year old skipper Dean Barker for Emirates both contend that they are ready and able to win the races tomorrow. It's truly a tossup as Oracle blew past Emirates at the start of today's race and won by 31 seconds. On Wednesday, Emirates took the race by 17 seconds, having gained an average 3 seconds for each lap. Clearly, Oracle has learned that the starting line is a mission-critical moment where taking the lead will pay off big-time.
Today, after the race, Spithill said his team is "reenergized by the recent performance of their AC72" and its given them the confidence that they can reel off seven consecutive wins. He said he’s also enjoying watching the Kiwis “squirm” as they hang on match point for another day. Emirates skipper Dean Barker says his team hasn’t lost its confidence or direction, despite today's loss.
Make your plans for this weekend, with the latest upcoming America’s Cup Schedule. With Jimmy Spithill and Ben Ainslie, Olympic gold medalist, it's hard to believe that Oracle won't be able to turn the tide to victory.
