Tax season often leaves us with a bad taste in our mouths. A lot of times, we need help doing our taxes, so we turn to a professional. But there are some things that should be asked before you hire a tax advisor.

First things first, what kind of services do they offer, and what do you need? Can they help prepare tax returns and file tax documents throughout the year? What about bookkeeping and financial reporting services? Next up, what are your own areas of expertise? It's best to find an advisor who can understand your unique circumstances and abnormal financial events. Lastly, how aggressively is this person willing to work to get you the full refund you deserve? Someone who is too lax may not get you the refund you deserve, but someone who is too aggressive could waste your time chasing pennies.
