Wise up wise ass! Havok, the retro-thrash sensation from Denver, Colorado has a powerful message to spread with their new album 'Unnatural Selection'. Every track is dripping with political and social commentary that challenges the listener to stand up, think for himself, and break free from the current norms of a socially engineered nation. Havok has been hitting the pavement and terrorizing dive bars all over the country this summer, spreading the good word. This examiner recently had the chance to chat with Havok frontman and brain child, David Sanchez about life, liberty, and the pursuit of heavy metal.
Examiner.com: I understand you gave away a copy of 'Unnatural Selection' with every ticket purchased to three separate CD release shows. With that in mind how do you feel about fans downloading the album for free from the internet?
David: I think it's cool people can download stuff from the internet. I'm glad that's out there. But, I have more respect for the fan that buys the album. Not the guy that snakes it for free off the internet.
Examiner.com: It's great that you are producing vinyls. Are you a big supporter of the recent trend in the preservation of record albums?
David: Yeah, absolutely. It gives you a full appreciation for the cover artwork.
Examiner.com: Your new album is strongly themed around the obvious need for change in our society. Do you think you could ever affect a million metal head march on our capitol?
David: If I can I will. My main goal with 'Unnatural Selection' is to make people think for themselves. Freethinking seems to have gone out of style these days.
Examiner.com: Have you had much negative response from right wing, or christian activist groups?
David: No, not really. And, If I ever do I think I've got a billion more aces up my sleeve than they do. There's one word to defend against those kinds of people and it's LOGIC!
Examiner.com: Were you looking forward to playing at The Shrunken Head in Columbus for the first time on August 21, 2013?
David: Yes. We love Columbus. We have had a good time every time we play there. Thanks for having us!
Havok recently graced Columbus, Ohio with a stellar live performance at the Shrunken Head Bar (See full slide show) and are touring all the way home, through September 14, 2013. On October 2 they hit the road again as direct support for Soulfly. That tour will not make a stop in Ohio, but it may well be worth a few hours drive to New York to support the guys in yet another monumental moment in their tour history. The tireless titans of the new thrash movement, Havok, supporting one of metal's greatest forefathers; Max Cavalera. It almost brings a tear of joy to my eye...Check out the tour schedule that follows, support Havok and BUY THE ALBUM!
