Reflection and examination are the earmarks of virtually every holiday. This one is no different, save for the crushing realizations that scrutinizing the state of American affairs brings on this Fourth of July.
The vision of the founding fathers; a country in which one might freely express one’s views (especially on religion), a nation built on the rock-solid foundation of Christian principle, personal responsibility, duty, honor, charity, and freedom from oppressive, invasive, and yes, tyrannical government entities; has dimmed to the point that it is essentially unrecognizable.
The primary cause of this skulking cataract is a metastasizing cancer called liberalism. The very word “liberal” belies the duality of a philosophy which uses positive sounding words to mask the stench of its fetid underbelly.
The naked truth is this. There is no freedom in liberalism as the Latin root of the word liberalis meaning “noble, gracious, munificent, generous,” literally “of freedom,” implies. The illusion of freedom in the world of the progressive is perhaps one of its most insidious characteristics. In short, what liberals believe to be freedom is actually the worst kind of enslavement.
Not unlike the ploy of militant homosexuals and their cohorts, using the term “gay” which means “full of joy” to gloss over their behaviors and put a positive spin on their agenda. Of course liberalism and homofascism rule the roost these days in America and are practically opposite sides of the same coin.
Case and point:
The men who founded America, imperfect as they were, believed that God the creator is the one who blesses a nation and as such should be honored, not just privately in worship, but also, quite palpably, in the public square as well. The U.S. Constitution is rife with allusions to the Holy Bible and as former Supreme Court Justice David Brewer powerfully argued: “America is Christian Nation.”
President Barack Hussein Obama conversely and emphatically states that America is NOT a Christian Nation, despite the mountain of evidence to the contrary in terms of its roots.
There exist in the USA today certain realities and many of them, to the true America patriot, are not very pleasant:
America has, this Fourth of July, a person occupying the oval office who funds terrorist groups like Hamas, calls down God’s (or perhaps Allah’s) “blessing” on abortion mills – namely Planned Parenthood – and describes high profile homosexuals in glowing terms like “courageous.” Barack Obama and his second-in command are forcing the same-sex agenda, not solely on the American people but on the whole world.
Meanwhile, legislatively the man does violence to the very Constitution he has sworn to uphold, wielding his presidential pen with the hair-trigger alacrity of the savviest Thompson gunner. His response when confronted about his unlawful actions? “Sue me.”
Consider also one of the truest symbols of American exceptionalism, the Stars and Stripes. Time was, not so long ago, that the banner of the greatest country on earth was displayed as a statement heralding the true freedom that God’s blessings have brought it and as an analog of everything the country was founded upon.
Now, one cannot turn on the news or search the web without finding stories about school children being castigated for wearing patriotic apparel or about a liberal jurist declaring “the American flag incites violence,” or about a 73 year old veteran potentially losing his home for displaying “Old Glory” and offending his yowling leftist neighbors.
In the case of the latter, CBS News affiliate WAWS in Tampa reports:
“A veteran could lose his home because of a small American flag he has placed in a flower pot in front of his home.
Larry Murphree explained that his homeowners’ association in the Sweetwater community wants him to remove the flag because it violates home display rules. Furthermore, he is facing $8,000 in fines if he doesn’t take it out of his flower pot.
‘I want it to go away. It’s such a minor little thing and they keep coming after me. They just sent me a letter that says I owe them around $8,000 and they put a foreclosure lien on my house’ Murphree said.
Murphree has 30 days to pay the fines and remove the flag or the homeowners’ association will move forward with the foreclosure.”
This without regard to Florida statute 720.304 section 2a which states that “Any homeowner may display [the] United States flag …regardless of any covenants, restrictions, bylaws, rules, or requirements of the [homeowners’] association.”
One might hope that if the matter sees the inside of a courtroom Mr. Murphree faces a judge a little less liberal than the one on the bench of the notorious 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals who believes the flag “incites violence.”
Despite the bleak outlook in America today there are also certain immovable verities that encourage one to understand and contextualize the present in light of a broader universal truth. The refrain from the left is constantly that conservative Christians are on the “wrong side of history.” The err they do follow is that because something might be temporarily popular it must also be right and acceptable.
History attests to the polar opposite. And when posterity comes to judge, it shall be the liberal who is measured and found wanting. To put it in a Christian perspective:
“He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet. The last enemy that will be abolished is death. For He has put all things in subjection under his feet. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection,” it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. When all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, so that God may be all in all.”
1 Corinthians 15:25-28 (NASB Translation)
So enjoy your Independence Day picnics, barbecues, and fireworks displays, resting comfortably in the knowledge that if you follow the one true God of heaven and earth, YOU are on the right side of history!
