After three weeks, the documentary by Dinesh D’Souza has brought in $8,211,791 according to Mojo Box Office, the web site that gives the most recent data on motion pictures’ rankings and earnings throughout the United States. Currently, it is the twelfth highest ranking movie via the monetary intake of the film. (UPDATE: The documentary is up to $12,338,567 while holding at #12 after four weeks in the theaters.)

“America (2014)” is described as a story that questions the relevance of many of America’s economic as well as social errors. Beyond that, it questions the intentions of President Barack Obama and former United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The politically-motivated movie is directed by Dinesh D’Souza and John Sullivan. The documentary’s writers are D’Souza, Sullivan, and Bruce Schooley. The film is based on D’Souza’s book.

Those appearing in the movie include Dinesh D’Souza as himself, President Barack Obama as himself in archive footage, Josh Bonzie as Frederick Douglass, Rich Bentz as Saul Alinsky, Chris Bruza as John Fer, Corey Dykes as Christopher Columbus, Michael D. Ante as MAJ Henry Rathbone, Don Taylor as Abraham Lincoln, Michelle Swink as Mary Todd Lincoln, John Koopman as a young George Washington, Caroline Avery Granger as a young Martha Washington, Lynette Bennette as and older Martha Washington, Jodie Moore as an older George Washington, Danny Marroquin as John Wilkes Booth, Todd Trice as Steven Douglas, Janitta Swain as Madame C.J. Music designed for the documentary is by Bryan E. Miller.

“America (2014)”, officially titled “America: Imagine the World without Her,” is a documentary film distributed by Lionsgate. It was released on a limited basis on June 27 – showing at just 3 theaters - with an MPAA rating of PG-13, reportedly due to violence. The runtime on the film is one hours and 43 minutes. “America (2014)” had its wide opening throughout the country on July 2 and has been showing at 1,105 theaters.

In the first weekend, showing it only 3 theaters, it garnered $38,708 and ranked number 42. The following week when it engaged in the wide release of the documentary, it shot up to number 11 and earned $2,743,753. In its third week, it maintains a documentary-well rating at number 12 on the movie box office chart.

As one can imagine, the reviews of the movie are from one end of the spectrum to the other. Many are giving it top ratings while others are giving it the worst ratings. A reviewer’s rating of the film obviously follows one’s political leanings. Conservatives are saying it is a terrific documentary while liberals are critical of the release.
