Flying might not be all plain sailing, but the fun of it is worth the price." - Amelia Earhart

Some of the cast and crew of the film Amelia attended a special screening of 'Amelia' at the Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 in New York.

The film Amelia, released on October 23, 2009, is a dramatic biographical film on the life of aviator Amelia Earhart, portrayed by Hilary Swank.

Amelia Mary Earhart, born in the late 19th century, and went missing July 2, 1937, was a noted American aviation pioneer and author.

Earhart was the first woman to receive the Distinguished Flying Cross, awarded it for being the first to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

Women, like men, should try to do the impossible. And when they fail, their failure should be a challenge to others." - Amelia Earhart

Earhart set many other records, wrote best-selling books about her flying experiences and was instrumental in the formation of The Ninety-Nines, an organization for female pilots.

Filming occurred in the summer of 2008 in a number of international locations.

One thing I've learned, you never know where life is taking you, but it's taking you." - Hilary Swank

Hilary Ann Swank, the lead actress in the film, opposite Richard Gere, is an actress who began her career with a small part in Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992), later a major part in The Next Karate Kid (1994), and had two Academy Award-winning performances in the movie Boys Don't Cry (1999), and a struggling waitress-turned-boxer, Maggie Fitzgerald, in Million Dollar Baby (2004). ~ Virginia Madsen is another cast member.

Swank has said that she is "an actor, not a celebrity" and has described herself as a "homebody." She has also said that she is "athletically inclined" and that she "love[s] sports."
