AMC’s “The Walking Dead” won’t return until Feb. 9, but the network – which knows how to keep its loyal fans hooked – released a new trailer for the second half of the zombie drama’s fourth season on Monday.
The trailer (see left) opens with a smoldering prison, which was destroyed in the battle that broke out when the Governor attacked in the midseason finale.
In the trailer’s closing scene, Carl is seen screaming at someone – who looks like his father, Rick – to wake up.
The scene has sparked speculation that Rick, who’s been with the show since the beginning, will meet his demise during the next eight episodes.
“The Walking Dead” has never been about the obvious, so assuming that Rick’s going to die based on the trailer is risky, at best.
It makes no sense that AMC would leak that big of a show changer in a trailer if it wanted to maximize the buzz about its show heading into Season 5 in the fall.
That said, Rick did look pretty banged up and injured in the trailer, but don’t assume he’s going to leave the show based on these obvious clues.
No sign of the new characters – Abraham, Eugene, and Rosita – are in the trailer. Then again, they might be, but because we don’t know who they are yet, it’s hard to say.
By the end of Season 4, look for Rick and Darryl to still be standing, but be ready to say goodbye to another “The Walking Dead” long timer.
Which one? Glenn or Maggie. Maybe even a “Romeo and Juliet” type ending with Glenn and Maggie leaving together.
Wouldn’t it be romantic for them to reanimate together, as well?
“The Walking Dead” returns on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. on AMC in Provo.
