AMC just announced that Seth Rogen will be penning their new upcoming television show, "Preacher" based on the Vertigo comic book written by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

"Preacher" is the story of a Texan preacher named Jesse Custer. Custer has lost his faith and has learned that God left Heaven and his responsibilities. He then decides that he is the only one that is capable of finding God and holding him accountable for his abandonment of his people and duties. While Jesse goes on this journey he takes his former girlfriend, Tulip O'Hare, and a vampire, Cassidy.

The show has what fans calls one of the most popular bad guys of the 90's comic world. He is called the Saint of Killers and is a killing machine that is a western gunman whose one mission in life is to kill Jesse.

The comic is very graphic and may cause some religious upheaval due to the graphic language, sexual content, and religious topics that are covered in the comic. But, with it being on a cable channel they should have a little more of a range to work in. AMC and Vertigo are faithful that Rogan and Evan Goldberg can ensure that this project is a success.

It has been over seven years and multiple discussions that many people including Kevin Smith have attempted to create a workable project.

This is what comic creator, Garth Ennis said about the project, “Steve Dillon and I are very happy to see Preacher being developed for TV, which seems a much more natural home for the story than a 2-hour movie. Between them, Sony TV and AMC have brought viewers two of my favorite shows with Breaking Bad and Mad Men, and it’s exactly that kind of creative commitment and courage that Preacher needs.... I’m particularly impressed that Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and Sam Catlin understand Preacher fully .... it looks like Preacher can now be brought to TV in a way that I’d previously not have thought possible, and I very much appreciate that Steve and I have been included in the conversation in the way that we have.”

So, are you a fan of the comic? How do you think Preacher" will be received by fans? How do you think it will be adapted for television? Will they be able to hold to the story?
