“Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take” (Proverbs 3:6)
In this world we live in, goals, ambition, accomplishments and success reign supreme. You are cast into a sort of irrelevancy if you don’t embrace this worldly view. Is ambition wrong? Not at all. Paul offers useful guidance in his letter to the Colossians. He tells us to “make the most of every opportunity” (Col 4:5). But he also says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord not for men….It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” (Col 3:23-24). If you make God your first priority and your goals and ambitions are Christ-focused, then you can be assured that you are living within His will for you. And most importantly, pursue those goals with a humble spirit, as a servant of God. Then God will honor you in your accomplishments and bring glory to His holy name.
“The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matt 23:11-12)
