Though Death Inc. is still in its pre-alpha stages, having only been in development for about ten weeks, Ambient Studios has released a demo. While still very early in development, this demo does showcase Death Inc.’s real-time strategy gameplay and streamlined controls. Hopefully this will be enough to draw out potential backers for this Kickstarter project, which ends on March 6th.
Taking place in the 17th century, the goal of Death Inc. is to spread the bubonic plague to as many unsuspecting people as possible. Collecting the souls of your victims will allow you to hire new units, upgrade your abilities, and decorate your base of operations. When talking about the game’s dark subject matter, Joe Eckersley (the game’s lead artist), stated:
Although you’re spreading the plague, which sounds pretty dark, it’s done in such a way that actually, spreading the bubonic plague, makes people happy.
Player units are controlled with a left click and drag of the mouse, making it incredibly easy to move units precisely. This intuitive gameplay, mixed with Death Inc.’s dark humor, could lead to it becoming a success with those looking for a new type of real-time strategy game.
