Amber Rose's recent twerking video is evidence that the dance move isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It's just being reclaimed by the women of color who helped to popularize the hyper-sexualized booty shake.
According to an August 30 report by Entertainment Tonight, Amber Rose twerked to celebrate her hubby's recent album success. Wiz Khalifa's Blacc Hollywood debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart, so she definitely had a reason to dance. However, her celebratory twerking video almost overshadowed her husband's big moment.
In her Instagram video, Rose donned a blue thong swimsuit. She showed Miley Cyrus how it's done by shaking one cheek at a time before unleashing a total jiggle quake. Amber captioned her video, "In honor of my Hubby's #1 Album #blacchollywood #AssDrop." She quickly became a trending topic because of the racy vid.
Last year at the MTV Video Music Awards, it seemed as though Miley Cyrus was going to put an end to twerking by poking it to death with a giant foam finger. VH1's "Best Week Ever" even filmed a segment titled, "Best Week Ever Mourns The Death Of Twerking." In the video, the "BWE" crew held a funeral for shakin' it like a salt shaker and popping it, locking it, and dropping it.
During an appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" last year, Nicki Minaj stated that the obsession with Miley's twerking was "weird." "White people think she must be cool because she's doing something black," Minaj explained. However, Sir-Mix-A-Lot will be happy to know that the babes with back are making a comeback. Nicki Minaj performed her "Baby Got Back" homage titled "Anaconda" at the MTV VMAs this year, and she reclaimed the twerk by getting her backside "goin' like a turbo 'vette."
Amber Rose's clapping video is further evidence that Miley didn't single-handedly manage to kill the twerk after overusing the move, and Rose and Minaj might be relieved to know that Cyrus' twerking days are done. "I've retired [from twerking], yeah," Miley recently told MTV News. "I'm making some music right now with The Flaming Lips. It's different. It's a little psychedelic."
Are you glad that Amber Rose and Nicki Minaj refused to let Miley Cyrus kill the booty clap?
