Amber Portwood was released from custody earlier today after about 16 months behind bars, and now that she's out, she's focusing on moving forward in her life with her daughter, Leah, by her side. Since her incarceration, Amber has only seen Leah a couple of times, so she has a lot to catch up and she wants to start the process as soon as possible.
In fact, the former Teen Mom is planning to head to court asap in an effort to regain at least partial custody of her five-year-old daughter. "That's the goal. That's what's going to happen," Leah told reporters on November 4 as she left the Indiana prison where she had been for nearly a year and a half.
To gain custody of Leah so soon after leaving jail may be a bit of a process. Although a judge would surely grant her visitation pretty much right away, giving her legal rights may be something that happens further down the road.
Either way, Amber seems excited to be seeing her daughter for the first time in months and she'll be doing so sooner rather than later. "Yes, I'm going to have her tonight," she explained.
Since Amber was jailed, Leah's dad, Gary Shirley has been caring for her all by himself, and although he is surely happy for Leah that she'll have her mother in her life again, he recently told fans that he wasn't looking forward to the dramas that co-parenting can entail.
