On Sept. 8, 2013, the Idaho State Journal provided an update on a missing Idaho girl believed to have been taken to Mexico by her grandparents. An Amber Alert was issued for 5-year-old Aaliyah Alynn Esqueda, of Idaho Falls, Idaho; after her paternal grandparents, Salvador and Irene Esqueda, failed to return her to her maternal grandparents and legal guardians. Debra and Scott Yagues have custody of the little girl and allowed her paternal grandparents to visit with her on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 2013. The grandparents failed to return the child at their prearranged time and the Yagues contacted authorities who issued the Amber Alert. Aaliyah was scheduled to return on Sept. 8, 2013.
According to a report by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Yagues believe the Esquedas took the child to Mexico due to a Facebook message sent to a relative. It is unclear whether the Esquedas planned to reunite the child with her father Jesus Esqueda, in Mazatlán, Sinaloa, Mexico; or intended to bring the child there for another reason. As their whereabouts and destination are unknown, it is important for those in the states as well as overseas to remain vigilant regarding Aaliyah's case.
Authorities believe that Salvador and Irene Esqueda took Aaliyah to Mexico by a bus that departed Idaho Falls on Sept. 5, 2013. Aaliyah stands 3’5” tall and weighs approximately 50 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. You may view photos of Aaliyah and her grandparents in the slideshow.
Salvador Esqueda is 74-years-old, stands 5’5” tall and weighs 160 pounds. He has gray/silver hair and brown eyes. His wife, Irene Ma Esqueda, stands 5’4” tall and weighs 178 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes and is 71-years-old.
