Amazon showed interest in purchasing Research In Motion; RIM said no

News recently broke that Amazon recently expressed interest in purchasing the flailing Research In Motion in an attempt to rescue the sinking brand from its financial turmoil.

MSNBC reports that the company sent private brokers to evaulate the company and what sort of benefits could occur from a merger, however RIM expressed no desire to be bought.  They would much rather make an attempt to resolve their problems on their own.

It's no secret that RIM has had a rough year. After lackluster sales of their first tablet, the BlackBerry PlayBook, delay after delay on new phones, and even a few pretty nasty letters from within the company itself, the apex of their plummet was seen last week at DevCon Asia when they announced that the extremely anticipated BlackBerry 10 OS, formely known as BBX and running on a QNX based user interface, would not be seen until the second half of 2012. It seems as though RIM cannot dig themselves out of this ever deepening hole.

As of right now, the future for RIM is grim.  There's no telling whether this delay on BB10 will be the final nail in the coffin or if it is exactlly what the doctor ordered. As for the deal with Amazon, now that they've made a move into the tablet world with the Kindle Fire, they're hungry to enter the smart phone market.  Expect to see something from them sooner rather than later.
