Amazon sales tax is now being charged in more states than before. On Jan. 1, Yahoo reported that three different states are now going to notice an increase in their bill when ordering online from Amazon. This is because you will now be charged sales tax if you live in Indiana, Nevada, and Tennessee. They were already collecting it in 16 other states.
People are supposed to add the sales tax on their tax returns but a lot of people know this doesn't happen all the time. If they do it when you buy the item, then there is no way that you can do it wrong or forget about it. It could possibly eventually end up where they charge sales tax to every single state. The online retail businesses do push back trying to not get this to pass, but laws keep changing and they have no choice but to do it.
