Jack Tretton has provided some details in regards to the situation surrounding the stock of the PS4 on Amazon. According to a report from the IGN website on Dec. 16, Sony Computer Entertainment’s president and chief executive officer disclosed that the next-generation system easily had the best console launch in history.
Even so, the demand is still outstripping supplies. Jack Tretton provided an example of the situation with Amazon. Sony Computer Entertainment gave the online retailer 12,000 units for sale last week. The allotment sold out in just 27 minutes on the shopping website. You can take a look at a few hardware shots of the PS4 in the slideshow to the left of this article and the comments from the executive below:
I think we made 12,000 available to Amazon last week and they went out in 27 minutes. When you can sell 12,000 in 27 minutes, it takes some big numbers to satisfy the demand out there.
The PS4 was first released in North America last month on Nov. 15. Sony Computer Entertainment also launched the next-generation system for European regions on Nov. 29. Due to the commitment to the other countries, the PS4 became hard to find in the days and weeks following its launch in the North American region.
Sony Computer Entertainment formally announced the next-generation system at an event that occurred in February of this year. The company also disclosed the official price tag, which was $399.99, at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in addition to the release date at the GamesCom convention.
