Amazon may be planning a 3D smartphone

There have been rumors Amazon has been positioning itself to hit the market with a new 3D smartphone to compete with Samsung and Apple. Although the Amazon smartphone was just something rumored to be on the drawing board a few months ago it now looks like it's actually in production reported International Business Times on May 1, 2014. BGR has published an image which it says is a leaked preview of the new Amazon 3D smartphone.

BGR claims many trusted sources have verified the image is authentic. It was apparently created for internal use by graphic designers at Amazon. Sources have said the phone will have a special type of 3D-motion-sensing functionality which will respond to movement. The Wall Street Journal reported in early April that Amazon was preparing to launch a smartphone during the second half of 2014.

An image which was obtained by Boy Genius Report is said to show the front and back of a smartphone with the Amazon logo reports CNET. This image has reportedly been illustrated by Amazon graphic designers for internal use by the firm. The image shows the front of the phone with large tiles on the screen along with three buttons on the side. The Amazon logo is on the back of the phone with two speaker grilles at the bottom.

The Amazon 3D smartphone will reportedly offer users a new and unique interface. It is anticipated the phone will track the position of your head through several cameras and sensors. This phone will therefore be capable of displaying various 3D effects in supported apps from Amazon and third-party providers. Sources say the phone will offer a 4.7-inch display with 720p HD resolution, 2GB of RAM, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and a 13-megapixel rear camera. It looks like this smartphone from Amazon could offer some heated competition for Samsung and Apple.
