This week Amazon.com introduced a new way to encourage customers to buy music from them: AutoRip.
What is AutoRip?
When you purchase an eligible CD online, a digital version of the album will automatically appear in your Amazon Cloud Player that you can listen to, download, and burn before the CD even arrives. The music is in an unprotected mp3 format, so you can enjoy it on virtually any device. Music purchased from Amazon.com does not count against your song limit for the Cloud Player, so you don’t have to worry about extra fees or charges.
What if I’ve previously purchased CDs from Amazon?
This is the really cool part. Any CD you’ve previously purchased from Amazon.com, even if its been several years, will automatically be added to your Cloud Player if it’s available for AutoRip. Amazon.com has sent emails informing customers of any qualifying purchases, so check your email and see if you have music waiting for you.
What does this mean for Southeast Idaho?
Residents of Southeast Idaho love a great deal, and they love freedom. This new offer from Amazon presents both, especially considering Amazon has extended this program to previously purchased music at no extra cost. (Don’t you wish something similar would happen for your library of VHS tapes?) And the mp3 format allows maximum flexibility to listen to their music unlike less common formats sold by Amazon’s competitors. Now you don't have to decide whether to buy the CD and rip it or purchase the mp3 album and burn it, because Amazon gives you both!
