Today, the massive on-line retailer has revealed their plan; the Amazon Fire TV. A set-top box that has an additional controller adaptation (for a cost). Offering the standard affair of applications in addition to the benefits offered by Amazon's own media service, the Fire TV is an intriguing offering with over "3X's the performance" of competitive solutions such as Apple TV and Crome Cast with features such as voice search.

The hardware specifications for the Amazon Fire TV are:

  • -SOC Platform: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8064
  • -Processor: Qualcomm Krait 300, quad-core to 1.7 Ghz
  • -GPU: Qualcomm Adreno 320
  • -Storage: 8 GB internal
  • -RAM: 2 GB LPDDR2 @ 533 MHZ

As for the gaming side, Amazon has revealed an additional controller for a cost of $39.99. This controller opens the door up to Amazon's streaming service, their newly established game studio in addition to other well established publishers and titles.

What publishers and titles, you ask? With Electronic Arts, Sega and Disney, one can assume many of these developers mobile games will easily transfer over. As for larger titles, Minecraft has already been announced for the platform.

Amazon has announced a price of $99 for their Kindle Fire TV and an additional price of $39.99 for the controller. Amazon has stated that they are going after the "non-gamer" as an explanation for the non-competitive specifications in comparison to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
