Amazon.com’s Breakthrough Novel Award competition begins

Calling all aspiring authors! Dust off the unpublished manuscripts or self-published novels at the backs of your closets. Amazon.com, along with Penguin Group USA and CreateSpace, launched the annual international Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award competition on Monday. Since 2008, the contest has sought out authors from a global crop of up to 10,000 a year. The Chosen Ones – one author for General Fiction; one, Young Adult Fiction – each receive $15,000 and a publishing contract with Penguin Books.

Last year’s winners of the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award were Gregory Hill (East of Denver. General Fiction) and Jill Baguchinsky (Spookygirl. Young Adult Fiction). Previous winners include Patricia McArdle (Farishta. 2010 General Fiction); Amy Ackley (Sign Language. 2010, the first Young Adult Fiction prize awarded); James King (Bill Warrington’s Last Chance. 2009); and Bill Loehfelm (Fresh Kills. 2008 prize).
