‘Amazing Race’ 19 recap: U-turn ends Laurence and Zac’s around-the-world journey

A dreaded U-turn on Sunday’s episode of “The Amazing Race” led to the end of father and son Laurence and Zac Sunderland’s around-the-world journey. And while they weren’t the only team U-turned during the episode, they were the only U-turned team that ended up lost in Copenhagen after finishing their second Detour challenge.

Things started off great for Laurence and Zac. They were the first team to arrive in Copenhagen and the first team to arrive at the Road Block, which featured one person from each team donning period attire and learning a three-part dance. Zac struggled with the dance moves, setting them back slightly, but Amani and Marcus were still missing (lost in town) when he finally finished and Jeremy and Sandy had just started.

Some people might say it was getting lost after completing two Road Block challenges that led to Laurence and Zac’s elimination, but it seems to make more sense that being lost wouldn’t have hurt them if they hadn’t been U-turned by Bill and Cathi (also U-turned during the leg), as Jeremy and Sandy were far behind the other teams for almost the entire episode.

The leg wasn’t terrible for all teams, though. Cindy and Ernie finally earned the repeat first-place position they felt was stolen from them at the end of the last leg; and Amani and Marcus pulled off a miracle performance, being the last team to arrive in Copenhagen by several hours, spending quite a bit of their time in town lost, yet still managing to arrive at the week’s pit stop fourth – bravo!
