Nick DeCarlo and Vicki Casciola checked in at Sunday's pit stop last, but they were not eliminated from "The Amazing Race" season 17 thanks to a surprise non-elimination leg.

"Luck was not on our side for some reason," Vicki said.

"Until now," Nick added. "Maybe this is our chance, and we'll run with it."

Get to know the team that dodged elimination on episode six

The couple was not the last to depart for this leg's challenges, but the Detour really tripped them up, sending them to the back of the pack. They were one of only teams to switch tasks, and they didn't just switch once; they went from the musical task to the cinema task, and then back to the musical task. When they went back to the musical task the second time they were calmer and more focused, and Vicki seemed to really understand how to excel at the challenge. They blew through it, but it was too late.

Audrina Patridge eliminated from 'Dancing with the Stars' 11 on sixth results show

Nat and Kat, who were the first team to check in at last week's pit stop, were the first team to depart for this leg's destination - Saint Petersburg, Russia. The trip to Saint Petersburg was filled with stops, though, so it took the teams quite a while to get from point A to point B. The teams moved from Narvik, Norway to Stockholm, Sweden to Saint Petersburg, Russia.

This leg's Detour challenged the teams to two of the most mentally difficult tasks "Amazing Race" has ever had. The teams chose one of the following options: listen to the compositions being played in three gramaphones, then match each different composition to one of about twelve pianists playing in a ballroom nearby; or search through hundreds of filmstrips for the strip that matched the film playing in front of them. Both task were incredibly tough and really tested the players' focus. Vicki explained the music task perfectly: "It was mentally exhausting."

This leg's Road Block challenged one member of each team to dress in a traditional Russian matron dress, grab a sack of 50 potatoes, walk down the road to a wheelbarrow that needed to be filled with manure, and then take the wheelbarrow and potatoes to a garden where all 50 potatoes had to be properly planted.

Jill Behm voted out of 'Survivor: Nicaragua' on day 18

Chad and Stephanie were constantly fighting during this leg. According to Chad, Stephanie couldn't do anything right, but when Stephanie would give Chad the opportunity to make the decision, he would freak out about her not contributing. At one point during the Detour, Chad lost it on Stephanie, saying he wasn't just done with the task but done with the game. It is understandable to be overwhelmed and frustrated, but Chad yelling at Stephanie when she wasn't doing anything wrong was totally uncalled for. It was Nick and Vicki all over again! Although, those two have worked out their issues, so maybe Chad and Stephanie will be able to work things out, too.
