Andie DeKroon and Jenna Sykes were eliminated from “The Amazing Race” season 17 on Sunday’s episode. The biological mother and daughter said the race, win or lose, was something they will always treasure because it gave them a chance to connect after 21 years apart. It was a very emotional elimination.
Meet Andie, Jenna, and the other ‘Amazing Race’ 17 teams
It was too big of a surprise to see Andie and Jenna go home. The team had started this week’s leg second to last, and they just couldn’t seem to get out of that back spot. There was one point when it looked like the pair would be pulling up to the middle of the group thanks to Jenna’s terrific selling skills, but a tough time finding the Detour led to them falling to the bottom of the group. The two teams that pulled ahead of them and put them in last place weren’t too far ahead of them, but they were just far enough ahead to stay in the game.

Ghana
The first clue of leg two sent the teams to Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park in Accra, Ghana.
Obviously, Connor and Jonathan are missing the point of the word “race” because they’re always thinking about other teams. In real life they would be praised for being so honorable, but on the race of a lifetime they just look stupid! At the first clue, they waited for Brook and Claire and Katie and Rachel. Granted, it appeared they only had to wait a minute or two, but that minute or two could mean the difference between being first and fourth. Plus, it didn’t get them ahead in this leg of the race; spoiler alert: they finished several spots behind Brook and Claire and Katie and Rachel. If they don’t start thinking about only themselves, they will never survive this race.
There was only one flight to Accra, so all of the teams arrived at the same time. When they arrived, they were shell shocked. The area was very different than anything any of them were used to. Some of the racers were even a little scared because locals kept coming up to their cabs and begging for money. One man even grabbed at Connor and Jonathan and spit at them when they wouldn’t give him any money.

Nick and Vicki were the first team to arrive at the park. The clue told them to go to Makola Market. Brook and Claire and Michael and Kevin were right behind them. At the market, they found a Road Block that tasked one team member with joining the street venders and selling enough sunglasses to make 15 cedis ($10 U.S.). Brook and Claire felt very confident, and they were doing very well, but Chad was also doing really well. It was a difficult task because the locals and the racers didn’t exactly understand one another, but everyone made it work, even if they had to make it work among a lot of frustration.
Brook and Claire were the first team to finish the task; no surprise there. The clue sent them to Peace Motor Spare Parts. They had a decent lead. Michael and Kevin left second, and Connor and Jonathan left third.
At the parts store, the teams found this leg’s Detour. The teams had to either install a television antenna system or transport a gigantic coffin to a local showroom. At first, the television antenna task didn’t seem like the best option, but Brook and Claire blew through it. They were the first team to arrive at the second pit stop, winning a 10-day trip to Hawaii.
